Hi hillbillypop just seen your post on your oil change with sae 30 semi synt oil I had a noisy hydraulic tappet on my 27 tdv6 I put in some sun s tappet and valve treatment then some wynns oil treatment with an oil change all quiet now getting back to the rank prob when I bought my oil the man checked on his system with my reg no I asked if I could use 10 or 15/40 instead and he said his system didn't list any other oil but 5/30 full synthetic even with high mileage engines have you had any advice on using a different grade of oil ?regs looge

crank
hi mate they were made by Peugeot in conjunction with landrover, jlr wanted 3ltr and Peugeot wanted 2.5 so they met in the middle then they uprated to 3ltr for the disco 4 as far as I am aware there are no tags on the mains or bigends and in some cases the bearing shells have turned in the con rods or block and this has blocked the oilways and seized the crank, thats what I am led to believe from different speaciallists mine has only done 78,000 mls but I am told the ones that go are high milage motors why they built them without tags on the shells I don.t know seems a bit silly to me I don,t give mine a lot of work to do and change the oil&filter twice a year I suppose that's all you can do how you run a motor is up to the owner I havn,t heard of any going round here [wait for the posts] weep it well looked after you can,t do any more did you enquire about oil viscosity after your oil change?regs loge.

Mine went from sounding sweet as a nut to sounding like something was flapping under the car to sounding like the engine was full of demented chickens in about 1/2 mile. Found a lay-bye to get pulled over into and that was the last half mile she drove.

Hi
No didnt enquire about oil was on another site that was saying it should be fully synthetic but me thinks thats not the problem the problem is the fact there are no lock tags and you would think lr would know that having supplied the forces for decades i think a cheeky letter to LR HQ is warented
granted an engine wont go on for ever but it shouldnt fail because some Eejit with a pencil didnt draw in a lockplate on big end nuts FM my mini had one back in the 60's me thinks i better holiday with the wifes SX4

I thought the engines although designed by Ford/Peugeot were made and supplied by Ford to JLR.
