I cant say if mine broke or not as stealer sent old engine back to Land Rover without investigation even though I had specifically asked for it to be done!!!

D3 TDV6 for 11 years, no issues with the crank, 425k kms ..
I'm starting to worry about the D4 TDV6 after reading some of the horror stories on here though .. D4
Disco4.com sticker
D3 11y, 425k km - sold, miss it though (MAR, DNK, NOR, SWE, SCO, WAL, MUD ...)

Given that there is some suggestion to the cause being diluted oil due to DPF regeneration, is it worth adding an option to differentiate between DPF and non DPF equipped cars? ie early D4's? Appreciate it might be too late now that the poll has started though.

So is the 2.7 less prone to failure than the 3.0?

Although this one is more useful, as it gives figures for failures vs non failures and 2.7 vs 3.0
Just added mine as a non failure (I don't believe in fate!). I wonder if people believing in fate and therefore not posting their non failures may be skewing the figures in favour of failure? Even so, it's interesting to see some kind of trend developing, with 10% failure in 3.0's and 5% in 2.7's. Any potential new purchasor coming to the forum might be forgiven for being mislead into thinking that the failure rate must be nearer 100%! I've certainly seen this sort of rumour starting to get a toehold and developing a life of its own on the FL2 forum.

Clicking on one of the links within this post, i saw mention of low saps oil ACEA C3. If this was used instead of ACEA A5/B5, would this cause any problems. Presumably the C3 oil is for engines with the exhaust particle filter ?. Was the Tdv6 even designed with this oil in mind. Was this oil and filter an untested add on ?.How many people just see 5/30 oil and just put it in regardless of other specifications ?
Does it make much difference ?

Yes, but was it a quick fix to satisfy legislation (in conjunction with the filter) . Was the engine designed with that oil in mind.
