Is he suggesting that there are 30,000 D4's with crank failure ? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

OK so think about it like this. I've had 3157 views of my post and I am assuming they are all LR drivers. Given that the stats say 'only' 1.3% of these engines suffer from this issue that is approx. 41 people in this situation with an insurmountable repair bill. That makes you think doesn't it.
I'll set up a poll and we can see how many site users have experienced the issue
go for it

I think I have enough people with me if I need them, I will now concentrate on the fact that this should NEVER happen on a lr maintained car of this age and mileage. Thanks all for the information it is much appreciated. And for all those with engine failure who are fighting to get this sorted, I wish you all good luck. I will come back and post when I get this sorted

I've had enough, I've just taken out a mechanical warranty with Warranty Direct
If the nightmare happens now, at least I've got some redress, before, sweet FA
Hopefully all get sorted on this

I would say that under the sale of goods act the failing crank is not fit for purpose.
I have suggested before you should take this up with watchdog, it appears that there are many others in the same boat.
The more people who post publicly about their failures then the more ammo you will have.
So for me even whilst you are gathering data of actual cases I would start the legal ball rolling.
As a concerned D4 owner I have a vested interest as do many others. Good luck Sinci1

LR sold 200000 D4s in SA ? Thats a big recall bill then if that's where it ends up , however 200000x£16k is worse , I wonder what the cost for new crank forged in a diff manner and fitted would be x 200000

Let's bear in mind that LR USA recalled all the 4.0 V6 engines as there was a "possibility" of a bottom end failure...
New engines all round, regardless of if there was an issue or not. Not dealt with on a case-by-case basis. My D3 Build Thread

Was the D4 ever offered with the T/SDV6 in America?
Looking at the Approved Used section from LR America, they only seem to have been offered with the 5.0 NA V8 or Supercharged V6. I know the Americans are not huge fans of diesels, but it does make you wonder...
363 Approved used online, and not one of them is a diesel

Thank you. I have sent a letter to Stratstone asking them to repair the vehicle under the sale of goods act, I haven't had a response yet, but they have 7 days to respond and not quite up yet. I am building the case with the solicitor in parallel in case I need to resort to that . I am still really hoping that Stratstone will do the right thing given their status in the market and the fact that they claim customer service is central to everything they do, now is the time to prove it. I will go to watchdog if I have to, a number of people have contacted me who are in the same position and of the same mindset.
