Some believe that L462 might be revealed in 2016, but Job 1 production is said to be on schedule for June 2017 at Solihull. The third generation Discovery is expected to use D7u, a lower cost version of JLR's Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA).

My understanding is that D5 is scheduled for MY17.
If manufacturing and model years follow previous timescales, this would suggest that the first vehicles are due to hit dealers in Oct 2016 and I would be slightly surprised if this comes to pass.
Defender replacement is suggested as being MY18 and component testing is already well under way...D4 Commercial - 65 Plate, 2016MY
D5 Commercial - Handed back when I left that job…
D4 Commercial (2014MY) - gone
D4 Commercial SDV6 - Baltic Blue (also gone)
D1 300TDi... 2" lift, HD bumpers (both), detachable tow hitch, 9,500lb winch, 235/85/16 muds and plenty of other toys (gone to make way for the next toy...)
Smiles per Mile - Tornado Motorsports caged Evo 3... 100" Defender look-alike, with Range Rover running gear - all fully IVA'd and registered!

I saw a camo'd mule around Eastnor last week, and I didn't recognise it to be anything currently available.
If I'm honest it looked very big Audi like
I occasionally do work for a company that produces landrover and jaguar parts.. I can confirm with 100% certainty, it will have either the words disco, ragne, land, jar, veyr, roevr, or gua, on the bonnet!

Whoever wrote this article in 'Car Magazine' is talking through his a**e "McGovern says the utilitarian Discovery 3 proved quite polarizing" anyone who thinks the D3 is utilitarian has never had to use a Series 2A LWB Truck Cab as his daily driver in the worst winter since 1963. I did and the ice froze on the inside of the windscreen, I have also driven Series 3 LWB Hardtops, and Discovery 300 tdi's and P38 Range Rovers and my current D3 SE Auto with a few extras from the HSE is far and away the most practical and luxurious vehicle I have ever driven.
1997 Defender 90 for the kids and I to have a go at some competitive off road RTV and Tyro trials, daughter picked up her first trophy over the August Bank Holiday.
Previous Land Rover history
1996 P38 4.6 V8 Autobiography
1996 Discovery TDi 300
1972 Range Rover 3.5 V8
LWB Hard Top Series 3
LWB Truck Cab Series 2A
Not been without a Land Rover for over 40 years - I must need therapy!

What they're eluding to is utilitarian by design which compared to the X5, XC90, Q7 etc of that time it was in spades with its boxey, slab sided shape...

If the RR and Disco sit closely together, McGovern says the new line-up of Defenders will stretch out the Land Rover brand. ‘Discovery is getting closer to Range Rover,’ he says. ‘But the Defenders, when you see those coming, they’ll really bring clarity to the three-family scenario. They’re out there, a working tool, probably closest to the original Land Rover heartland, but still relevant
