I just don't believe in "dated" as far as design goes; there's simply good design and poor design. The D4 is a good design.
+1
I saw a line up consisting of an Epoke, DS, D4, RRS and FFRR (no Defner), and the only one that really stood out was the D4. They looked as dull as ditchwater as they were all grey or black with the FFRR being a little more interesting in Scotia grey - the general impression was:
The issue I see, is that the vehicles are becoming more similar overall. The Epoke was a good addition to the range when it was introduced, if not my "thing". The new FFRR has lost some of the class of the old one, bringing it closer to the RRS. The RRS is now much more fitting of the name, though quality has dropped to save weight. The DS is a more flashy replacement for the FL2, so closer to the Ewok/RRS again. Meanwhile, the D4 is being "blinged-up" to try and keep in line and the end of the Defner is being milked. Which ones have more individuality out of that lot? The Disco and the Defner...
These are supposed to be different cars for different people, to spread the market nice and wide wide, but they're determined to drive the whole lot up-market and restrict it instead. LR should be as much about the toughest, off-road, farm vehicle as the high end luxury market, and many from either end of the spectrum will appreciate that. Why do they seem to think that lower spec cars are "cramping their style"? LR are very clear where this fits and where they want to be and where the market is.
Its just a shame its the upper price range and the wide span of cheapish/practical to luxury is going.
There are so many other factors like pedestrian safety, aero, fuel/emissions saving etc that i think its hard to design some things.
Then there is the brand DNA you were all looking for above and facelifts bring it close but still not in the evolution.
Add to it all the complaints about x/y/z being required then it needs to change
Change is change, its just different not bad not good - but its not the sameMike

When you look at most forecourts their is a lack of lower spec cars at mine it's as rare as hens teeth for a Disco,so perhaps dealers are being helped to push specs higher from L/R as more profit to both.
There's an element of practicality in that too, of course, as dealers need to be able to demonstrate equiptment to customers, and they can't do that if it's not fitted on their demo model. Whereas, I'm pretty glad to have Euro 6 "AdBlue crap" to help protect myself from likely future emission based charging, especially in relation to low emission zones 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

I'd rather protect myself from engine shutdowns and the associated rubbish with it!

Chap we have spoken to said he has been producing components for a while now and that there are mules out running about and have been for a while. As for price it will be competitive as sales sre already been lost to the likes of the new XC90. As for the car he said it is absolutely stunning he drives a FF RR and his wife a RRS and he may well move across. First customer cars will be last quarter next year he thinks first lot will be demos and launch cars.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Considering how much the price increased when the FL2 became the DS, I'm far from convinced that we're not in for a stiff price increase.
Have you sat in an XC90?! I'm really not sure who over sold that car in the first place, but a D4 competitor it isn't!2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
