My indie replaced the TC, the mechatronic sleeve and installed the metal sump upgrade. Plus they did a wheel alignment, so now no more pulling to the right on dodgy tarmac.
Cost an arm and a leg, but worth it.

Debating its future.
Sadly it’s still at the garage I dropped it off last September.
Work has been slow but getting there.
Engines been gone through and given full bill of health.
Chassis has been Dinitrol treated, running gear and brakes all sorted.
Body shell is rotten, the rust is worse than I expected and they expected.
So to fix it, I would need a donor D3/4 and cut out the back 1/3 of the floor pan, rear arches etc and get it welded to mine.
Or, swap all the good parts from mine, into a later D3 HSE with a failed engine and get that built up.
Or just abandon the whole thing and get bought out the project.
A rebuilt later car is nice but it’s not “my” car. I just want FA54 back but it’s going to be a mission to get the body shell repaired.

Got an 08 shell here that I’m still debating whether to cut the back off and pickup or to scrap, either way I’ll have a back end surplus to requirements you could come and cut bits off of? Happy to donate any cutoffs FOC if it helps get FA54 going again - it’s one of the OG D3’s I remember from when I first got mine and as a long term owner of a similar vintage one that I’ll never be parted from I feel your pain.

Replaced the upper tailgate actuator and also the micro switch.
Actuator - easy using Ford Fiesta part as recommended by Powerful UK.
Micro switch - a because the existing wires were very short.
Didn't take pictures of the actuator but the condition of the switch explained why it was temperamental.
Removed rotten side steps today using trusty Angle Grinder to cut through what's left of the step frame to cut the bolts securing the steps to the mounting brackets. the bracket bolts came out easily as I used stainless bolts, copper greased when the steps were fitted 7 years ago instead of the supplied Chinese bolts. The Sills still have the original paintwork intact with no signs of serious corrosion. The replacement Step brackets attach to the chassis therefore sit outside the plastic Sill cover the existing covers have cut outs for the brackets which are not now needed so sooner or later I shall be replacing the covers with uncut ones. Additionally, the new slimline steps have two support brackets instead of the origional three and the brackets are made from more substancial steel and will fit D3 and D4's.Relocated to Mid France from N. Wales March 2021

Put on some new isolation on the underside of the engine cover, as the old one was in crumbling pieces. Don't think this one will last 17 years, but it'll do for now.

Changed the transfer box oil. Old oil was more like black coffee in colour and viscosity. Didn't try the taste test. A much easier job than I thought it would be. Was all done and dusted in 15 mins. Drivetrain sounds quieter now in low gears I think. I used Smith & Allan TF 0753 - Transfer Case Fluid - £39 for 2l.D1 300Tdi - gone
D2 Td5 ES (Alive remapped...mmm) - sadly gone
D4 2012 SDV6 XS - Stolen

That is hard to believe, after all you’ve been through with the D3. That must have taken a lot of courage.🥴Mantec sump guard.
