for some reason, the PB shoes lose their adjustment, causing the cable travel required to impose maximum required force ( monitored by 7) to extend. Once the maximum travel on the cable threaded connector (5) is reached, the spline shaft (6) will cease rotating causing a clutch assembly (I think) in the gearbox to release the rotational force from the motor - hence the 'screamer'...
What I do need to do is take the rear shoe assembly apart to find out why the adjustment is being lost and how to prevent it, I suspect it's linked to reversing (from the number of warnings about drum rotation in the adjustment procedure) Andrew - are your photo's prior to cleaning the shoes and how much (if any) was there in the inside of the drum / disc itself?

Mine went in today...
They cleaned it all up as it was dirty and adjusted the brakes....
I then paid £90 + VAT....
They did wash it for me though...

And that's my point - why the need for adjustment? maybe it's related to TC locking the wheels when offroad somehow affecting the adjustment? I just don't know (yet) and its p g me off
Why on earth didn't they cover it on warranty? No way should you have paid for it; mine was sorted under warranty yesterday and "all it needed was a strip down and clean, sir".I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I still fail to see customers should be charged for this whilst the D3 is in warranty. The bloody thing is supposed to be able to go off road, drive in arduous conditions, put its chassis underwater and reverse multiple times... oh and surely TC and HDC and the EPB were designed to play nicely together - FFS

I agree. It should not be chargeable in warranty.
[RANT]The car is designed and sold with for a 15k service interval. I would even suggest that 15k interval is a reasonable selling point for the dealer to emphasise when persuading a prospective customer. Of course vehicles used in arduous conditions should require more regular servicing.
The PB however, seems to fail before the car can even be presented for servicing, which in my opinion is a break down and not a service requirement.
Its not up to the job, there is no escaping that fact. If Land Rover want to keep their reputation intact, for producing an off-road vehicle that ALL the current press and commentators are heaping awards onto, they have to sort this out.
A working Park Brake is a legal requirement, affecting the safety of the car. It would fail an mot test if it failed during the test. Its not something that can be swept under the carpet. [RANT/OFF]
Does anyone have an email address for a suitably senior person at Land Rover? I'd like to send them a link to this thread.I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Who decides whether something is covered under warranty....is it the individual dealers or do they seek guidance from LR?

Ultimately both - it depends how the dealer puts the warranty case to LR and what mood the workshop controller is in
Talk to the DP in your case and ask for an explanation of why 'adjustment' was necassary outside of sheduled service intervals

The pics were taken before cleaning. the shoe braking surface's had quite a lot of debris stuck to them, the inside of the drum was OK. Maybe a different lining compound would help
Buckingham it should be a warranty claim this has never been questioned by my dealer or LR. In fact this was a Q I raised with LR customer care when I told them that the Blue Pearl is always in getting the EPB sorted. The reply was your car is covered for 3 years Mr Searles so take it to your dealer and get it done under warranty Get back on to your dealer and ask for your money back.In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Guys,
The handbrake in "old" vehicles was also called the "emergency brake" as you could apply the brake gradually if you needed to. What happens if you operate the EPB at speed? Is it iether on or off or can it be used gradually?D4 HSE MY2015

If you apply the EPB at anything over a couple of mph it acts as an emergency brake (and a very effective one at that) but applies the regular disc brakes rather than the EPB drumsThe End
