Ive had a little play over the last week and managed to buy a curved lightbar and an old grill and combined the 2!

the plates were dead easy to make and the whole job only took about an hour to cut the middle grill out and make the plates.

ill eventually spray the grill and the light to match the car
As you can see i had to cut the end caps of the light bar to fit around the front end on the car....
The light is all mounted to the grill completely so there no extra brackets bolted to the framework! Which means just the catches and a plug to take the grill off!

That looks good, and if I was going to fit a light bar is what I would hope to do as well.
Presumably it is solid enough and doesn't vibrate.

Doesn't vibrate all all done about 400 miles with it in place and no vibrations and no change to the cooling!

What light bar did you buy?
How have you wired it, is it on with main beam or on its own supply?

i know this is bringing up an old thread but how waterproof are these light bars. would it last if you were to submerge it going through deep water?

The bar looks about the same height as the intake so maybe it'll be safe enough Dave

I've passed my LED bar on. This is how it's now fitted. Simple and makes it really easy to remove grill or the bar when needed.

The £80 eBay ones aren't IP rated highly enough to do serious wading.

That looks neat, did you fab the plates your self or did you get them somewhere? Would be very interested as my bar sits proud of the grill at present and I would prefer it flush

Luckily I have a friend who is a whizz with aluminium. Those pieces have a slight bend to them. That's about it.

Do you have a link for that bar is the curve does appear to match the D3 exactly?

if you want one thats completely waterproof and dust proof then this one has an ip rating of 68 (IP ratings explained http://www.euroboxenclosures.co.uk/IP-Ratings-Explained.html ) but coming from shanghai i would take that with a pinch of salt

re waterproof / LED bar,
I have no submerged mine, but have had it on for almost a year and can say that it has dealt with massive amounts of motorway spray, heavy-west-of-ireland rains, BIG puddle splashes, lots of exposure with no issues.
Mine is a relatively cheap ebay jobbie and happy with it for specific use
