As I noted before, don't be too quick to knock these.
It really depends on what you want it for and what kind of roads you are on. I have mine installed a few months now and driving on longer, wider and more open roads, stick with you normal headlights / high beams.
HOWEVER, on the tighter country roads (35 - 50mph type), these are amazing and give an huge flood of light. Main problem is that your eyes get used to it and the standard lights seem so puny when you go back to them - that is because your eyes have got used to it.
In essence, the main problem is that they light up so much in the short distance that your eyes do not focus on what is the further distance, fine for slower speeds, not good for faster roads.
These are divisive items alright, but they do have their place. Are they limited - YES, would I take mine off - NO
Best way to install them is to have them switchable so that they can be used with the high beam when you want but also allowing you to switch them off to use just the standard set up (which LR designed and deemed appropriate!).
The issue with small roads though, it that the extra light will reflect off the closer hedges. You also have a large change in lux when switching from high to low beam being exacerbated by the former. There's then the 6000k colour temperature making them more glaring, particularly in poorer weather, and tiring on the eyes.
The fact is they can't really help when it's needed. The one place they really are useful is if you want a wide spread of light in a field/off road etc.

Finally got round to looking at how to mount my led bar.
My thoughts are to get an angle bracket, cut it down to the right size, hang it over the solid bar, bolt into that twice
give it a little bend and then secure the light bar to that.
Question is steel or aluminium and how thick - 1.5 / 2mm OK?

Been good infor & pics for the light bar but was wondering about heat from the bar when it's on the Grill? Just thinking about the grill getting distorted ?

Wouldn't it be 'better' to fit a single row LED bar in both upper and lower space in the stock grill or even in the bumpergap between the foglights for the Lr4 type grills?
Not for airflow it wouldn't. Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

That would be my only concern also, although I think the single rows are thin enough to ensure enough airflow wouldn't they?
Oh yes, they'd allow airflow, but it wouldn't be "better".
(In the case of the bumper it would affect me more so, with my uprated intercooler , but that's a moot point because I'm not fitting one anyway.)Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I wouldn't mind a LED bar if I could do it in a fairly unobtrusive and camouflaged way...

I opted to go for the bottom bar on the grill as I quite liked the LR badge
Did need a bit of modification and 'feckling' though...also had two work lights added to the back which are super bright for the size of them, well impressed
When it's stopped ing it down I'll get some proper pics up
Where are these pics you promised us all

I fixed mine to the metal frame for mounting the grill, means it sticks out a little but I don't mind

Having looked closer...did you cut off a section of the curved housing on the light so the heat sink fins fit between the metal frame?
