Viscous fan help - close to setting fire to the f thing

Hello wisdom mongers,

Guru Martin and I are having some problems with my D3 alternator replacing job.

Quite simply the viscous fan bolt is too tight.

We have tried Martins home made steel holder and the big spanner (not me) but that just buckled under pressure.

We have tried force, heat, WD40 by the gallon and it wont budge a millimetre.

I have a RRS eBay pulley holder (wont break or your money back) on its way but any tips would be very much appreciated.

Big thank you for Martins help so far, its not even his car and he's really fed up with it.

Im off to the local offy to see if my calorie free VAT of ale has arrived.

Keep eyes peeled for smoke.

Dave I have to ask are you undoing it as a left-hand thread ie turning the spanner to cranking battery bay and not trying to tighten it.

Flack Thumbs Up

Dave, have you got a very large adjustable wrench? If so attach it to the fan about 2 o'clock then take a large hammer and give it a sharp tap clockwise as you look from the front. Might take a few goes but I've undone a tight one like this before.

When you do get it off and subsequently put it back on, just spin it back on so its seated, but not actually tight - it will tighten itself in operation. Thumbs Up
