Right the new pulley tool rocked up this morning and its a fine sturdy piece of kit!!!
Im now going to start snotting the crap out of the spanner to see if I can actually get my car repaired.
Geoff - you busy next week.
I will get you a passport for the Watford gap.

I've used a metal rod to secure the spanner I'm holding once its secured the pulley in place.
Then all morning I've been bashing the hammer in the direction indicated ie clockwise.
It hasn't moved a mm.
Bro in law, whose a top mechanic, is coming round tomorrow to look at the thing and what options we have.
Geoffs suggestion of getting it out from underneath maybe the last resort.

why not use scaffolding pipe or something to get massive leverage? it would move the fooker or brake the tool...

dave you need to wedge the fan locking tool on the engine I use the axillary belt idler pulley to lock my tool on to the fan. You need this to shock it free holding it in your hand is a waste of time.
I have had some tight ones but never failed yet to move them, cut the other end of the spanner off and get a long tube over the spanner thats what I have it's about 2 foot in length giving plenty of leverage.
And that hammer in your picture is a waste of space use a lump hammer it will move then..
