Hey chaps
Hope everyone is well.
At the risk of being told to GTFO (haha) - does anyone have any experience or opinions on those chips? Are they worth the hassle/money and do they save on fuel enough to justify?
I more than appreciate that a remap would be massively better overall, but they are substantially more price wise and I kinda like the fact you can whip these fellas in and out! ( if you pardon the pun )
As always, Many thanks everyone

What remaps have you been looking at? For not a lot more you could have yourself an Autologic map...
That, and there is a guy up this way that will do custom live mapping for £250 My D3 Build Thread

This thread is only a few months old but try here http://bellautoservices.co.uk/ they are a site sponsor and peeps on here swear by his remaps.
As for porting, that involves taking the heads off and removing metal from the inlet and exhaust ports to make them bigger and more importantly, smoother. Not something I would have done on a D3. You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

I've got a bluefin, very impressed so far. You remind me of a younger me, not much younger mind...perhaps even a little older!

Yet something else I looked at before fitting my engine
There is not a lot of extra material to be taken off. The inlet ports in the head are about as big as you would want to go, so porting (at least on the inlet side) is a no go My D3 Build Thread

Chipping, remapping, porting .... |
|
Having watched the old documentary channels anything car related ..... I am a novice (D3 since May) ....
Saw the porting on the Lotus Elise (£400 not sure what year that was done) .... looked good to do though so thanks for answering that question ....
The chipping now is the next issue to look at .... 'bluefin' is that different to those offered by BAS .... or is it the same thing?
Also a plug n play type chip .... compared to going to York and being on a ramp and having everything tuned ??
Any ideas on cost and whats best to do as next project ??

Bluefin is a plug in, upload and disconnect job. You get a hand set, can't really go wrong with it. Then if you want it can be put back to factory settings. You remind me of a younger me, not much younger mind...perhaps even a little older!

Similar systems, BAS map comes with a FCR but costs slightly more. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

BAS.
Don't be deluded that spending money on a remap will give you better fuel economy. It won't and if it did, the time mileage it would take to recover the cost of the remap would make it irrelevant anyway.
Get a remap for improved drivability and to put a smile on your face, but make sure it is tuned to your car.
