Random question - but do you think these jacks will work in the long term?
If that EBay shop has a job lot of 200 does that make you think that there may have been a manufacturing problem ie weak hydraulics etc and they have got them on the QT when they should of been disposed of...
Or am I just being paranoid with my Glaswegian roots showing...

Being the eternal cynic, I have to admit having similar thoughts my self.
So no, I woundn't label you as being paranoid at all.
It's all a bit convenient that there is an eBay seller flogging hundreds of these jacks. Where did they come from, how has a seller that sells predominately electrical goods got these jacks, the questions list (to me ) is endless.......

Or just items over ordered by Merc, or factory not able to receive them so immediately disposed of. ISTR from speaking with the LR factory tour guide that LR does the same as no where to store them (all JIT) and would just mess up the smooth running of the line.

I think it highly unlikely that a manufacturer would allow 200+ jacks to hit the market on the QT. Should one fail it would be pretty easy to see who made them.
Lots of reasons why a surplus of these would hit the market. Mine came in original and unopened expanded foam packaging with all the leaflets etc included.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Seen elsewhere that there are taken off hire Merc vans as H&S won't permit the user to change a wheel. This policy is enforced widely elsewhere so I don't think there is any cause for concern.
Mine was pristine.

That does sound plausible and would explain the large circulating volume.
Sorry for slight hijack on the OPs thread.

this jack may only be suitable for the early 5 seat coil sprungs
worth checking
Excuse my ignorance but is this worthwhile with a D4

that reply was in response in reference to a different (landRover) jack not the Merc one
The merc jack should be just as functional with a D4Illegitimi Non Carborundum

Done the mod myself now. Found I had to be a bit brutal taking the foam in and out but overall no problem.

Got round to doing mine, as above a bit brute force & ignorance getting the foam out. Getting it back in is easier if the foam manages to nicely break in two. Bit loose for the built in lackie band thing so just put the old tool bag in to pad it out.
Anyone want to buy an unused LR jack??

Hi all,
Love the mods to get the jack to fit and they are cheap in the UK but it seems this ebay seller won't ship to Oz!
Anyone able to tell me the weight and dimensions for the item if I get family to ship one out separately?
They work out at about 99GBP if I buy from a local supplier, might even be able to find one for nixt as I think my dad has one of these vans
