Hiya Steve
There are certainly some comparisons between Cyprus and Corfu.
Waiting for your VIN.
Currently i have 3 takers, but only 2 have registered and i am looking for more like 10, so there are still some places

hi Colin
ok , if I understand :
-I need a serial port on my laptop ?
I only have USB on my laptop ........... IS it "dead" for me ?......
I connect my FCR for updates to USB , for example , right ? But now , I need to connect my FCR on my laptop by the other connection, the side where the OBD2 plug is plugged in? ....
I have already this cable:
It's good ?
thanks Colin for your answer !

how to connect?
Hi Colin,
I have registered as a beta testa for Genesis but i am getting the message no VCI device connected. I have the FCR connected to the car and then a cable from the FCR to the USB on my laptop. Am I supposed to be connecting the laptop directly to the car via a serial to USB converter using the cable supplied with the FCR to connect to the diagnostic plug on the car to use Genesis? Many thanks for your help.

Yep, that is indeed correct
Just to detail the physical requirement and steps for Faultmate Genesis.
You need a VCI2 lead, that you can:
1: Buy on its own for 80 GBP +VAT on our web shop, Item LD035 in the FCR section
2) Borrow it from an FCR system that already includes this
3) Borrow from an MSV-2 system, that also includes this, although you will need to either buy or build a simple 5 to 9 way adapter.
This will need to be connected to a web connected PC, which can be done either:
1: Directly, if the PC has a native serial port
2: Using any USB to serial adapter, you may have to load a driver for this that will come with the adapter
You will need to register an account on the Genesis web site. During this process, you will have to provide the serial number of your VCI2 which is typically found on a label attached to it, but if this has been lost there is an application you can download off the site to read and display this.
As long as you have sent me your VIN number, you will get a confirmation e-mail with log in details for you.
Once you have this, then, at any time, you connect the VCI2 to your web connected PC and run the Host software on it that is downloadable on the Genesis Web site.
This will find the connected VCI2 and then establish a connection between your vehicle and the Genesis web site.
Then, while that connection is active, you use either the same PC or any other internet connected device and using it's web browser, go to the genesis web site and log in with the details provided to you.
You will be given a selection of diagnostic functions, that will vary depending upon the access rights allocated to your account. We will provide you with enough features to play with and test communication and all vehicle system access.
As a Beta Tester, you are expected to e-mail us with details of any problems with any aspect of this process.
So far, quite a few have successfully connected and report absolutely no problems with this aspect, which is great news
We are currently adding some diagnostic functions for the D4 and so can open up some remaining places on the Beta Test Program to any D4 owners.

HI Colin
Have problems !
What is this problem?
When I run "diagnostic" on your site, there is an error: "No VCI"
look:
Explain me or show me with pictures how to make the right connections, please!
Currently I have: CAR OBD2, to laptop through USB to RS232, and my FCR connected to my laptop via USB, is this correct?
I have no "cables" between my FCR and the car, you know?
I tried: For OBD2 to FCR, FCR to laptop, as to the updates, for example ....
The software "Genesis" does not work in this case ....
Thank you for help , not easy for me to understand well , I'd be better at school in English ....
Cheers...................Marco.

Marco,
Do you have the ignition switch (the key) turned on? If not it won't work.
Hope this helps.

Hi Chris .
Of course , like the usual conditions !
One idea: I should understand this: I plug the OBD2 cable on my laptop with the USB to RS232 adapter , I run the programe "genesis" and he "connect", as I already do, see my photo previous !
Then I plug my FCR"normaly",, as when I want read the codes D3, with his OBD2 cable, and I plug the "mini" USB to USB cable from my laptop has FCR!? ... As for the updates? ...
And only then I run "start diagnosis" on the Blackbox website? ........ Marco.
