Fitting puddle lights

I have a GS so no puddle lights, am I right in thinking the wiring may be there already, and if so can I cut out the hole for the light unit without taking the door trim off, if not are the trims easy to get off, thanks.

Thats pretty much what i did for my P38 Range Rover but they had a little rubber plug to pull it out, so no cutting involved!

If I recall correctly the doorcard is different so not as straight forward as you describe ....infact its the doorbin moulding which houses the puddle lamp that is heat welded onto the actual doorcard that is different.
Pics of doorcard in my gallery which you would find useful in ascertaining the points that the doorcard is screwed to the actual door along with position of all the clips that hold it on also.

Thumbs Up

Thanks, very helpful, the template for the light seems to be embossed in the bottom of the door which I guess is the molded on bucket, I wonder if I could cut out this without removing it if it attached to the door card?

just cut out the shape you see under the door ,and pull the bottom away from the door to find the wireing as it is usually taped up. First side i did i pulled all the door card off but was not needed

And if you fit the lamp units in the slots do they just work or do they need enabling in the CCF??

I did this to our base model 7 seater. Took the cards out one by one and cut the hole to fit the puddle lights. You need to take the cards out to find the plug for the lights- its taped up too high to reach with the door card in place. No CCF update is required and the lights are about £3 each from TLO

I guess I could try cutting them first to see if I can find the wires, if not take off the door cards, any idea if taking off the door cards is complicated e.g. you can break things or Censored up wires? Very Happy Thanks for the help so far Thumbs Up

There's a good thread on here somewhere that I followed. Read it twice to avoid any damage, once you do one the other 3 are easy. ISTR there is a loom running right behind where the puddle lights go, TAKE THE DOOR CARD OFF!! The plastic will cut with a Stanley knife so long as you use a brand new blade and a steady hand. Mark up the size of the hole to cut with the 'back' of the light. The moulding mark is too big to allow the face of the light to recessed rather than produce below the main line of the door card.
Failing all that pop round and I'll do it for you Laughing

I did the footwell lights, that was dead easy, no cutting required, it does show up the mud on your mats so you will find yourself polishing them most weekends, but the door lights should be less maintenance, maybe just jet wash the block paving on the driveway where the doors open Laughing

I may put some LED lights in the doors, same as the one I put in the rear boot, it should shine like some alien craft at night Rolling with laughter

Having a GS myself, I also dont have the puddle lights or the foortwell lights, so will watch this thread with some interest. How easy were the puddle footwell lights to do, is the wiring there as well?
Man with no D3 anymore, but cant leave the forum....how sad.
