my D3 126k - new to me so prev owner may have cleaned MAP sensor but mine fairly clean. Light coating of oil though started putting 2sO in fuel recently (2 fillups so far).
Incidentally as i'm a newby, how do i visually check if the EGR valves are blanked - i dont know what im looking for in the engine bay.
cheers
Hi Willyroyale
yours still has the EGR's in. Right at the top of the picture you see a light color cotton braided hose. that is one of the EGR hoses.
Get the EGR blanking kit from BAS. Fit it, clean the MAF and forget about it. At the same time remove the cat. If you use 1:200 2sO, you don't have to fear an MOT.
One of the biggest problems with the CAT on the TDV6 is that it can lead to turbo failure. This due to excessive heat being radiated onto the turbo core by excessive back pressure of a partially blocked cat.
Those of you who want to keep their CAT in, use 2sO. when used from initial fitment of the cat, it will drastically extend the life of that unit.EX AFRICA SEMPER ALIQUID NOVI

Did mine today whilst swapping around bulbs on headlights and fitting LED sides.
Pretty gunked up, used brake cleaner squirted into hole to clean up.
67,000 miles EGR's not blanked 2007 model.
Not driven yet so will need to report back on any improvements.

Checked mine yesterday. Did not take any pics since it came out clean as in these pics. 68000 km's, 2009 SE? EGR's not blanked.

Cleaned my sensor today. Didn't take a photo as it looks the same as the rest of the gunked up ones.
Took it out for 20 miles and didn't really notice any difference but I'm happy in the knowledge that it is clean, and there's nothing wrong in that!

Cleaned sensor today. 2007 model 84,000. EGRs not blanked.
Took it for a wee run and it seems more responsive on the throttle and shifts up through the gears faster but maybe it all in the mind. Time well tell on the MPG. Richard

Cleaned my MAP sensor, not as bad as some of the pictures on here. Partially gunked around the top but the hole looked clear (not to say it wasn't gunked down inside)
Anyway cleaned it several times with electrical contact cleaner (really is the ideal stuff) and let it sit full of the cleaner for a while. Air dryed it to let solvent flash off and put it back. Possibly the easiest job ever. First run into work I didn't notice a thing different but getting back into the car, it started noticeably better, went up through the gears very noticeably better and just felt better all round.
After a couple of months of relentlessly solid 21.4 (ish) mpg (even resetting every couple of weeks) my average is now 22.6 mpg. And I would say if anything I have been doing more around town work and even did some light towing. I'm optimistic cleaning my MAP sensor has given me 1-2 mpg.
2 stroke oil and EGR's are next. This forum is time well spent!

Gunked sensor.
Just cleaned my sensor which was gunked up as all the others were, But! noticed that there was still a clear hole into the guts of the sensor, which says to me that the sensor is still doing its job. I recently did the EGRs and use 2T in my diesel, Motor is 55 with 119000 on the clock, I reckon the gunk built up before EGRs were done so will be keeping an eye on the sensor, £116.00 is a lot of brass for something which you cant guarantee is not working.

Did mine last week, 106,000 miles, the MAP sensor was gunked up to the point of having no hole in it. I have no EGR valves and I use two stroke oil. After cleaning there has been no difference in starting, performance or MPG.You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

OK, step one might be overkill!
Step 2:
Open bonnet
Step 3:
Take off oil filler cap
Step 4:
take off engine cover
Step 5:
Put oil filler cap back on
Step 6:
Get tool kit
OK, OK, I'm getting bored with steps. MAP sensor is in the middle with connector, see DM's pic. Small torx thingi,' undo screw, lift it out, it just pulls out with a small vacuum pop. Clean it (after taking pic) and put it back. Refitting reverse. 5 min job (including finding where SWMBO's hidden the tool kit) and very easy.

MAP sensor is circled (or ovaled)
Here's the offending sensor, I'll check it regularly but cleaning seems to have made a difference. Time will tell.

Thanks
as per my mechanic this was cleaned when they cleaned my EGL.
He also said if this was dirty I would see a decrease in power of th engine.
I might check one day if this is true - and will see how precisly they work.
maybe I got this time a poor quality gasoline this is the reason of increased consumption.
