Got up early today to go to work in the D3 which I don't normally use for work. Seemed to drive better, seemed smoother below 2,000 RPM. Fuel wise, my MPG was on 30.1 when I started as that was an average from my last 2,000 mile trip at the end of May. Normally round town this would continually fall, but it stayed the same. Also my fuel range was at 214 when I set off, 25 miles late it had increased to 230 which will mean 480 miles on a tankk for driving round town which has not happened for a long time.
Definately an improvement, and easy to keep on top of so will monitor but do expect an increase in MPG over time.

Got a bit more turbo whistle now but not had chance to test on a decent run yet.

I noticed that when I cleaned mine, dont know if the turbo is controlled by this sensor so it wasnt working properly before?

Hi All,
Thanks to this thread (and forum), I cleaned out my sensor today. It had a fair bit of gunk in it, but the manifold hole where it sits in was worse. Looking in, I thought the sensor had a little shelf to sit on, but it turned out to be gunk with a small hole in the middle. The disco now runs a lot better after a proper clean.

Will see if my mpg improves. I've been recording tank to tank over the last 2836.50 miles - average 19.13mpg, best ever (motorways only) 22.02mpg, worst ever 16.64mpg. I'll update here if the cleaning has made any difference...

Sounds about right, if you have a V8.
I work on:
Local cold urban trips: 17mpg
Fastish Mway (75 - 80mph) 27mpg
Slow & steady (60mph on cruise) 30mpg
That's when/if all working OK. Averaging 25.8mpg over 95k with 80% slow & steady. Planet warming nicely.

I wonder if it's a later model (MY09?) thing? I don't believe it's been changed before, so is original to the vehicle.
It certainly looks like it wouldn't get blocked as easily.
Cheers

Mine is MY09, and looks the same as DSL and Hess...
2008 MY with 94,000 miles on the clock, owned by me from new. Pretty much every third tank has been Optimax (every tank these last 15000) and have started using 2T the last 5 tanks. EGRs are not blanked, car has a BAS tune.
Surprisingly clean, perhaps testimony to the amount of motor way miles driven, or perhaps the fuel. Who knows?
Liberal application of EGR cleaner and here you go:
Will update if mpg changes noticably I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

OK. From the pics that show a part number, most of them seem to be Hitachi PS91-1. Mine is a PS91-3. The bottom number is probably a production batch number or manufacturing date code.
So, I wonder what the difference is between the PS91-1 and PS91-3 and more importantly why I have the 3 and not the 1 like everyone else...
