Had a look at mine after 5k and it just had a light film of soot over it. EGRs blanked.

Thanks DSL!
I have blanked the EGRs since 4 or 5k but have not cleaned the sensor. I did it Wednesday eve. It was straight forward. There was a lot of gunk and even the air intake was full of black oily film. Out of curiosity i removed also the top of the intercooler hose to check if it´s delaminated and discovered the same messy stuff in here Is that normal or will I get in trouble?
And what are the typical signs for the delamination of this hose?
Test drive: I am not really sure but I think it runs a little smoother and is slightly more responsive but it idles still rough even when hot. Can that also be caused by blanking the EGRs?
Any ideas??

Took mine out and cleaned it at the beginning of the thread, fairly dirty but not as bad as some, euro 4 engine so have replaced EGRs. I have subsequently had the loss of power with no special programs 3 times since I cleaned the sensor.
Did the usual, stop and re start again, all fine for a week or so then on the 3rd occasion I took it to my local independent who are solely Land Rover and very knowledgeable, plugged in the magic box to find no pressure reading in the manifold. I told them that I had cleaned the MAP sensor, to cut a long storey short it would appear I damaged it whilst cleaning it. DO NOT POKE ANYTHING DOWN THE HOLE as there is a membrane or something inside that is part of the pressure sensor and at £138 a pop it is an expensive mistake.

Just an update, it took a weeks to arrive due to Land Rovers new next day delivery system not working and they forgot to quote me VAT so £166.54 for a MAP sensor. so beware when cleaning your MAP sensor. They did fit it for free and check that I had a pressure reading in the manifold.

When I replaced battery last Friday i took the opportunity to clean the MAP sensor (following the instructions on here), as I guessed the computers would all re boot when the new battery was connected.
I had my EGR's blanked about 3 1/2 years ago but I very much doubt if they checked the MAP sensor at the same time, when I took the MAP sensor out to inspect, it looked like many of the others on here clogged with black gunge (I would post a picture but am unable to work how to do this perhaps because I am using an old Mac)....
I cleaned the MAP sensor with WD40, spraying it down the hole about 5 - 6 times until it came out clear.
Since cleaning it I have used the D3 daily for work, and also a long journey to Granada including a 2,000 metre climb to go skiing in the Sierra Nevada.
I haven't really noticed much change to the power although perhaps notice the turbo whistle a bit more, however the MPG has gone from 22.5 to 24.4 (but I did change the oil, filter and Air Filter the week before changing the battery).

If you've cleaned your MAP sensor how's it looking?? Pics please. Here's a starter for 10 in case you've not been following the ESF thread.
Has it made any difference if you've had high mpg & sluggish performance?

Thought my recent experience with an Engine System Fault message and subsequent MAP sensor cleaning might be helpful for others:
I live in Germany and have a 2008 D3 TDV6 with 122K Kms on clock. Last week I was towing and had an ESF message come up with yellow engine light and instantly lost power (bloody dangerous actually!). On engine restart, all was OK for a few mins and then problem reoccured. Just had the 120K service with local LR dealer so was a bit suprised to have a problem. Anyway, had a read through D3 forum and decided to inspect MAP sensor. Found it was quite dirty / gunky so cleaned with rag and squirted copious amounts of WD40 into hole until it ran clean. Dried and replaced and all seems to be OK now. To satisfy my curiosity, I took it ot a local garage to get computer fault codes downloaded this morning and system had logged P0489 & P0490. I keep my fingers crossed that cleaning the sensor has fixed the problem and I'll post again if problem reoccurs.
PS - bit disappointed that LR dealer obviously didn't clean the sensor during service - reading other posts, seems like an important thing to do. Also expected German engineers to be a cut above counterparts when it comes to diligence, etc; you live and learn...

Codes point to an EGR problem. Re cleaning the MAP sensor, not part if the schedule, probably never even thought about.

Thanks for the comments.
Is it unlikely that a dirty MAP sensor would have caused these fault codes?
Should I also have EGR's checked, etc? I'm not familiar with deisel engines...

As DSL says above
The fault codes are EGR related, the garage who conducted the diagnostics should have advised this common fault,Only dead fish go with the Flow !

07 plate with 50k on the clock. Car booked in for service week after next. Have noticed on recent 2,000 mile trip that am using 10% more fuel than last year. Couldn't help myself after reading this thread so went out and cleaned all of the gunk off the sensor, will have a drive in it over the weekend and see what the diffence is.
