With Java, if you're carefull in how you do it, you don't need to paint it,
[provided donor grill is same colour as your D3].
I didn't have to paint mine. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I don't want to paint my original java grille, I picked up a brand new all chrome grille for £100 and was thinking of painting everything but the slats. D3 incl. genuine glass windscreen, front bi-focal headlights, full width rear bumper, self levelling washer bottle contents and audible 'tick tock' indicator stalk

Was the only cutting the insert to fit within the aperture of the donor grille and the four slots to the donor grille itself?
How much modification was there to the D4 insert?
Did you end up using the sikaflex, and if so did you just apply to the line along the slats, to secure the base?
A bit daunted to be honest

I've decided to go the whole hog if I have to cut with a dremmel....got hold of a 2010 Range Rover supercharged grill, so just need to get a cheap D3 grill to butcher.
I just love the look of Rentons modification and cant wait to try and copy his hard work for an amazing look!

Hi
Take a look at my gallery tried to link to it but it doesnt work!
i fitted my grill a little differently than the other dudes, i cut out the old grill leaving the internal side slates with a dremmel and then cutting down the ends of the new grill sanding it with a belt sander.
using the belt sander and sremmel i removed the four vein feet on the bottom, then angled them so thay fitted in, so didnt have to cut the four holes in the bottom of the grill.
so my grill sits flush with the existing grill as appose to set back, it was a pain in the rear and took me one afternoon and a lot of mess and i was nagged, but i think it looks really good, keep seeing other D3 drivers in sevenoaks look at it perplexed!!!! (why buy a £50 K car when you can achieve the same look with an £80 grille and a dremmel!!

Dan,
Did you take anymore photos of the process, I'm just about to do mine and would like to weigh up whats easiest.
Looks great, but not quite sure from your explanation above exactly what you did and as someone has said before a picture speaks a thousand words

Started this today,
Must say, I'm not enjoying this mod, cut out the middle part in the donor grille and started to shave down the D4 grille insert but being very cautious as I go.
Got to the stage where I could go either way with Alan or Dan's versions but had enough for today, maybe have another go tomorrow. 2016 RR Sport Autobiography

I've got the D4 insert, got it off Slimer and found a D3 donor grill on Ebay.
All in just over £100!
Nightmare job though!
I've fitted headlamp washer jets, pump, sensor & fog lights with the LED rings this week already, which was easy compared to this. 2016 RR Sport Autobiography
