Hi All,

Hello Everyone,

My name is Laszlo (Laci for short), I've never had any 4x4 in my life, but the abiity and beauty, durability and most importantly spacioussness of this car just beyond my imagination. I currently have a new style V70 Volvo, but my family grown out of it, and I'm in search of the ideal vehicle for us.

I enjoyed your lively discussion for a while as a guest, thanks for all the info. I'm not a D3 owner (yet), I only try to do my homework before ordering the proper toy Wink

It seems (as I love gadgets - it should be a HSE spec, the colour should be silver - if I do not want to spend the time at a carwash all the time - but I also like the Tonga green colour as well - ? is it 'black' in terms of cleaning? any experience? ), but I cannot decide between auto and manual. I always had manual cars, therefore I ask you - which would be /was your choice, and what you like/dislike about it?

Does the auto spoil the off-road pleasure?

Does it worth putting on any off-road gadgets straight (like A-bars, spots, winch etc, or it's better later -when you hopefully now what are you after?)

Regards,

Laci

Hi Laci, welcome to the world of DISCO3 Very Happy

Spec is your choice but don't forget you can 'spec up' the lower models if you don't want all the HSE gadgets and save a bit of money.

Silver is best 'easy care' colour and will probably stand the test of time best but it is also the most common. Green it the more traditional LR colour but green cars are also the ones most likely to be involved in an accident as they tend to blend into the background more in low light conditions. If you want to save £500 and are not bothered about metallic paint why not go for white, with the contrasting black plastic bits I think the D3 is one of the few vehicles that looks really good in white nowadays. Whatever colour you go for I'd recommend getting paint protection applied, it'll make it much easier to care for.

I'm a manual fan and think it gives you more control than an auto, but it has to be said the D3 auto box is very good, after test driving an auto I did seriously consider it for a good while.

Accessories, you will probably get a slightly better deal on them if you buy them with the vehicle and any that are fitted when new should be covered by the 3 year warranty, but if you're not sure what bits to get I'd agree you should save your money and wait until you really know what you want. Do take a close look at the factory fit only options though, you can't add them on later so you'll need to order them with the vehicle

What ever variant you end up getting you're going to love it Very Happy

Si

Hi Slimer,
Thanks for the info, can I ask what is this 'paint protection'? Is it a dealer applied thing? How much should it cost? Does this include 'waterproofing' the outer electics/cables?
regards, Laci
PS: sorry, one more thing to ask what's the difference between manual and auto in fuel consumption?

Paint protection is dealer applied. It's basically a extra layer that bonds with the paintwork to make it a bit tougher, easier to clean and removes the need to apply polish. The package normally includes a scotchguard type protection for the interior fabrics as well.

Dealer standard price seems to be around £400 but you can easily knock them down on that, for example my dealer wanted £375 + VAT, I just raised my eyebrows at that price and he instantly knocked it down to £275 inc. VAT with a £50 aftercare kit included. You could buy the kit and apply it yourself for a lot less but the paint protection warranty is only valid if applied by an authorised agent.

Hi all,

This seems a friendly place Very Happy

Currently courting the idea of a D3. In negotiation with the dealer but not getting very far... Sad

The information on here has already been a great help - so thanks all.

Currently driving a Mazda RX8. Talk about chalk and cheese!

Welcome to the site. Yes we are friendly. Occasionally bite a head off now and then, but nothing serious.

Another Newbie

Hi.Long time lurker...1st time poster.

I've just ordered a TDI 'S' model in silver and added the SatNav. Should take delivery towards the end of November. Very Happy

This will be a fair change to my recent cars, two scoobys an Evo 6 and 7. It was time for a change and I really fancied the D3 for a while now.

Looking forward to getting it offroad, as I firmly believe in using them for what they are designed for. My recent Jap cars all had a hard, but fair life on Britains trackday circuits. Twisted Evil

Hopefully catch up with some of you once I've taken delivery and got along to my first playday.

Regards, John
