You've not said whether the FBH is powered up during your attempted communication?

Martin
Just noticed I did not answer your last question regarding if the FBH is powered up whilst I try to communicate with it, yes it is.
Have you received the manual yet please?

FBH Not starting up

Hi Chaps,

I've got a 2006 D3 and the FBH doesn't start when the coolant\outside temp are meeting said criteria. I've taken it to a dealer and they've cleared the faults twice and run it via their analyser. It was working last winter but has stopped again, their advice is to replace the unity at cost of £500!!

They're not prepared to do any further diagnostics so I though give it a go myself with the obd cable. Made it up but when I connect it to my laptop the Webasto sw doesn't recognise the heater. I can check the com port and its been assigned either a 6 or 4 depending on which usb port I connect it to. I've got v2.13 of the s/w which seemed to be the latest available.

The only thing I can think of that I've maybe done incorrectly is connect the red wire on port 2 of the FBH connector with a scotch clip rather than directly into the odb cable. Would that be causing the issue as it's still connected into the cars system?

I've measured the voltage down on the odb pins when it all connected and I get 13v so it looks like its got power. There's also a similar voltage from the red wire on the FBH and the negative. I've tried it with the engine running and when its in sleep mode. Also ran the auto detection on the s/w devices and w-bus but still it doesn't find it.

I've attached some photo's, any thoughts or comments much appreciated Smile

Cheers
Dave

Dave,

No photos attached but if you get to the stage where you are paying dealer prices for a new FBH (ie your quote for £500) please consider using a forum-friendly dealer. Dan's £150 price for a new FBH inc vat and delivery takes all the angst out of FBH repairs.

You could try changing neutral connection to pin 4 rather than 5 it worked for me (it's chassis ground rather than signal ground) Thumbs Up

also I'm fairly sure the car can bus will interfere with wtt so make sure the car has gone to sleep before setting up Thumbs Up

Might well be the fact you're not using a simple K-line adapter, but a more complicated OBD tool.
