There was a thread some time ago about checking the FBH, had a quick look for it but there have been so many posts about FBH's.
Being a muppet, is there an idiots how-to guide? How long do you leave the fuse out? As you slide down the banister of life

snipped this from landyzone re a FL1
"Three failed ignition cycles will cause the FBH to lock out. If a fuel burning heater isn't working due to lock out pulling fuse 5 from the engine compartment fusebox for a few seconds while the ignition is on will reset its ecu. If that doesn't sort it then it's likely to be a faulty outside temperature sender."
Obviously it's not fuse 5, think it's 28 at the fuse box by the battery. ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

took my Disco to local indy yesterday. Cleared the faults/lockout straightaway with Autologic, was the first one he'd dealt with as hasn't had many D3s through the workshop. Very impressed as there was no charge.
Typical now it's been over 10 degrees when I've taken the Disco out.

I'll try removing the fuse whilst ignition is on (presumably this would also work with engine running?) and let you know if it works.
Ours did work once according to the Mrs.

Matt, pulling the fuse with the ignition on is the only process I havent tried. I will be intrigued to see how you get on.

Failing that approach I'm going to resort to some kind of incantation and ritual sacrifice...
...I have to say, permanently locking out the heater without any warning message to the driver is a bit poor really - compared to the rest of the car that seems to warn me about the slightest little thing.
I've had 3 wks of sub-zero weather and no FBH

D3 FBH experience in winter (Finland) |
|
Hi All,
My D3(MY 2006) experience of FBH is following- almost daily usage in winter)
- FBH works between +5C...-10C (not used in warm wheater)
- problems starts -15C and below, FBH does not fire up
- every winter 2006/2007/2008 dealer has replaced FBH webasto unit (warranty)-works awhile
- after 3 malfunctions you have goto dealer to reset car faultcodes (fuse trick does not work)
- local webasto specialist told that model used in Landies (also Jag S-type and VW-Touran)does not really work properly in coold climat (Northern Finland)
- local dealer also admitted that webasto FBH has repeating problems
- webasto can and D3 can-bus are not properly designed to work together
=> webasto has serious design fault and D3/Webasto can-bus are not integrated properly--both are micky-mouse designs for real usage
- LR/Finland (Inchcape) does not admit that there is any problem
- after LR warranty exprired I got Ebersprächer installed and its works fine
- unit is not connected to LR can bus- thank god!

Thanks Sakke & Matt, interesting points, I wonder whether the harsher climate makes it worse. Any future problems with the FBH and I intend to resort to the Russian method of pre-heating the engine - igniting a tray of diesel and sliding it under the car, it will be more effective than the current FBH which appears to be a load of

Just returned form the Dealers re. FBH they called me earlier to say the car was ready for collection.
I asked did they repair the heater and to my amazement they said there was no fault and the heater was working perfectly!
This was after my blinking heater decided not to work over recent cold spell. The best news of all was No Charge as there was no fault!
Well Done dealers!!!....For once!

After having my faults (low fuel lockout) cleared last friday, The heater fired up great on the way home. It has not worked since So I have invested in an oval timer and plug (£70.00) wired it up as per the very good directions on the technical sticky, pressed the fire button on the timer, flame light indicator lit up, i then stood back and awaited the FBH roar, guess what - not a whisper, i swapped the Canbus / live out wire over and still nothing. I am now at a loss. I have pulled the fuse and now sat here waiting and wondering if I really have just thrown £70.00 down the drain. Any suggestions please As stated mine is a 2004 MY
Thanks
