Hi wiggs, could you confirm that the fbh pin is top 2nd from right?
how did you get the com port sorted? my port is listed in "extra's-set comm port. click on start Diag ---- but after a few mins say com cant be used

Its best to check the pin out by reading the numbers moulded on the plug (I don't mean to sound patronising).Check Ian np's post http://disco3.co.uk/forum/post616222.html#616222
The photos make it pretty clear. I managed to fry an OBD lead by not checking properly. Once I checked properly by making the lead up as per instructions then checking the wiring and pin outs twice and then checking again before connecting it up, it worked first time perfectly.D4 SDV6 XS Orkney Grey

There are three wires connected to the interface:
Click image to enlarge
These are
16 = (brown) = 12v (battery via 1amp fuse)
7 = (red) = W-BUS (aka K-Bus)
5 = (black/pink) = GROUND
The pin numbers are moulded into the plastic housing - or make sure it is as per the above diagram.
Then as per wiggs suggestion:
let the car go to sleep , disconnect the plug on the FBH
connect new one (or wires if your doing it that way )
apply the 12v to the obd2 plug
start pc software
plug in usb lead to PC .
The trickey bit is making sure that the PC Prog is using the same USB Comm port as the interface is connected to.
Ian..so what can I fiddle with today that ain't broken ...?

Connector with RED Arrow:
Just for ref:
Red = Pin2 = W-Bus
Yellow/Blue = pin4 = Medium CAN
White/Blue = pin5 = Diesel pump
Yellow/White = pin7 = Medium CAN
If the RED wire is installed as in the above pic (pre 2007 vehicles) this wire can be found in the kick well at the engine bay_to_vehicle connector.
I have put together a PDF of installing PC_Diag and configuring it for Windows XP (setting up the COM port etc).
I will try and get it posted over the weekend.

Spare electrical connectors, what are these?
Hello,
during my quest to get the FBH to operate, I observed two unused electrical connectors in the area near the FBH. Does anyone know what these are for, and can they be used for something useful?
Below is a picture of the unused connector next to the FBH (to the left with a white end). Can it be used for connection to diagnostic tools?
In addition there is a connector in the spare battery compartment, just next to the break fluid rerservoir (I have a left hand drive car!) It has a plastic cap on the end, and there are 3 black wires going to the plug. In the picture it is just on top of the wire bundle on the base of the compartment) Can I find these wires again on the oposite side of the engine room, an possibly use these to get direct 12 v supply in the spare battery area?
Any ideas will be much appreciated .
Best regards, Geir

Looks like the connector for the transit relay (which is redundant after PDI & delivery to first customer).

This might help folks when making up the loom for the FBH diagnostics -
I got a "free gift" when I ordered my VAG OBD-II cable - a VAG 2x2 adaptor. You can buy these on ebay for 3 or 4 pounds, and it'll save you some hassle.
This adaptor contains the cabling you'll need for making the loom, and you just need to cut off the supplied connectors - carefully noting which wire goes to +ve, -ve, and K Bus and L Bus. Forget about L Bus, and connect the K Bus wire to the FBH plug data wire you'll already have bought from the Disco3 shop ( The one that goes into pin 2 of the FBH plug.)
Just bung a couple of croc clips on the +ve and -ve and plug the VAG 2x2 adaptor into your OBD-II cable, and you're done.
You won't need to remove the FBH plug from the FBH - as long as the car's ignition is off and the car's sleeping, you can carry out all your tests etc with the Webasto software. You'll also then be able to start the car and see what the CANBUS is doing to the FBH. It's all fascinating stuff.
Oh, and if you got the K and L Bus wires mixed up for some inexplicable reason, and the Webasto software doesn't work no matter what you do - just do a swap and try the other wire. No harm will be done - well maybe to your pride and confidence
This website has good info on the pin setup of the VAG 2x2 adaptor - click on the diagram of the plugs to see a larger image of the plug shapes and pin numbers quoted in the table. Easy.
.If you wait for it to go wrong - it's bound to oblige

Well Got it set up, two faults listed cleared them both then primed fuel and set it to run. all went well to start, just not very noisy,(like the ones in truck when they kick in) then FB light came on all was well thought i'd cracked it then FB light went out and started cooling mode . two faults 1= STFL (take it that means start failure ) 2 was lockout . after 5 or 6 attempts result and faults were the same each time.
had to go off on a job so will have another play tonight. Anyone got any thoughts ? / help
Thanks in advance

Hi Mike,
Some have found that blowing into the air intake to assist the combustion fan works, Others again have just persevered, clearing faults and trying a start repeatedly. Make sure the car's sleeping, both if you remove the FBH plug, and if you don't. That way you're sure the CANBUS isn't interfering.
Is your battery in good nick The FBH needs a good slug of power to fire up and circulate the coolant. If your battery's not brilliant, you could try clearing the faults and then start the car. Have the FBH plug in place and leave the PC connected so you can see what happens with the CANBUS controlling things.
Have you tested the individual components from within the software - circulation pump, combustion fan, fuel pump, etc. etc. Handy to see if there's a component fault.
Just one thing - make sure the coolant temp as reported in the software is below 57deg C. before you start. Oh, and use the supplementary heating setting - not parking heater. Oh, and another thing - when you get it running, let it run until it gets up to full temp, and see that it goes to the lower power/ heat setting, before you think about powering down.
You might want to post some screenshots of the software overview at the crucial moments - somebody might have a comment on what's reported.

Thanks for your reply .
The battery was new before xmas so it is good, Does the water temp need to be below 57 before it will run fully ?
Every time it came up with stfl fault and would net clear with the soft ware, I had to take the fuse out
Thanks for your help and comments
