It seems to be the wire that used to control the FBH from the radio on earlier models - sadly now removed by software updates carried out and deleted on newer models.
When you say "from the radio" that means the wire goes back to the inside of the car????
Anyone got a wiring diagram???
Who should I ask?

Yeah, possibly to the ATCM and on to the radio. The earlier models had a timer function built into the radio, activated through the radio menu, but as you'll see from previous posts on this topic, it didn't work too well, and LR deleted it during software updates. It should and would have been a great feature, almost making the FBH a parking heater.
Wiring diagram - I don't know
But if you just need to look at the FBH, and adding a timer or GSM control, you don't need one. Everything you need to know is here somewhere.

Thanks lookatmema,
as you said "Everything you need to know is here somewhere."
the important bit is "somewhere".
I've read through all (I think, 'cos there's a lot of 'em) posts about the FBH and all sorts of different "tricks and tips" on how reset them etc. and there's an awful lot of conflicting info. out there.
So, I thought I'd try to get to the bottom of it.
If ANYONE reading this has any info on where that little red wire goes please post it and if you have a wiring diagram . . .
Happy New Year everyone !!!!

Even on the earliest wiring diagrams I have, there's no evidence that the red wire goes anywhere in the car - it doesn't appear on them at all - I presume it is a relic from a WBUS control system that never made it into production.
The GTR diagram for the connector shows a red wire on the picture, but it is not shown on the table or in the wiring diagrams. On the FFRR it goes to the instrument cluster and the climate control, perhaps it's a carry over from this?
Anyway, it obviously goes somewhere but I think only way to find out where would be to first trace it on an engine wiring harness - and it may well just stop there and not carry on to anywhere useful in the interior.
The (removed) settings menu timer used, I believe, the CAN bus to fire up the FBH in park heater mode, which is why the radio had to be on (to wake up the CAN bus). 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

@LX0850:
Just fit your Danhag module and the timer (Webasto 1533) as 'lookatmema' said.
In the instruction manual of the timer is also written about the, possible, red wire: just remove it (and forget it).
You're in my neighbourhood so come and see how easy it works with mentioned stuff. It's a piece of cake to build in, and works super. Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE java black (in Europe)

Kindly please help me with something...
Versions of the ThermoTest program used: 1.19, 2.09, 2.11.
Commands tried: "Parking heating" and "Suplemental heating".
No mater which combinations of the above, I keep geting the error: "NAK, access denied!".
FBH is working properly, no errors stored.
I can interogate the errors and erase them.
I can make individual tests: light the glow plug, start the combustion fan, start the recirculating pump, etc.
I can spy the values when the engine is on and the FBH is driven by the car's ECUs.
But I can't start the FBH in an independent way...
Could be because I don't have the "remote heating start" option activated in the CCF of the car?
Could it be because the car is not in sleep mode and the CAN wires are still connected? I didn't wait inside the car, locked-up, the required 10-30 minutes for the car to enter sleep mode...
By the way, it is a FL2, not a D3/D4, but I believe that the Webasto hardware is the same.
Please, you guys who already know you're ways around FBHs - Ian, Wiggs -, give me a hint...

Tied this myself using my OBD II cable and I can't get it to work. It see's the OBD port and tried to communicate but can't seems to be able to connect to the FBH.
I had a second OBD II interface and that didn't work either. I could see the power LED on and the Tx flashing whne I try to connect but no response. Then I get error saying it can't communicate.
Any idea's or is it my FBH.
By the way my FBH works fine and I have a timer which starts it via the W bus, so the FBH must be accepting signals.

1 WIRE FROM PIN 7 OBD TO PIN 2 ON FBH (TOP ROW 2nd FROM RIGHT AS YOU LOOK FROM N/S FRONT WING)
THEN JUST LINK THE PIN 5 FROM FBH TO PIN 5 FBH WIRE LOOM PLUG ?

From memory I thought the wire from the OBD to FBH is on the bottom row of pins on the FBH, but I will have to check now.

The software seems a bit tempremental . What i do is
let the car go to sleep , disconnect the plug on the FBH
connect new one (or wires if your doing it that way )
apply the 12v to the obd2 plug
start pc software
plug in usb lead to PC .
Comm port was an issue when i first installed , but now got that sorted G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
