A word of caution regarding disconnection of the battery, make sure the car is fully 'asleep' before pulling the plug.
You need to have had the key out and the door shut for at least 120 seconds before disconnection. Make sure the radio display is blank, and the (P) park brake symbol is extinguished before you disconnect.
There is a small sticker by the battery box to remind you.

Hey drivesafe, how much did the Aussie dealer say the buttons assembly is worth.
Thanks

I have no idea what they would cost down under, but in the US, they were $83.00 dollars.

Hi ontheridge, $138 and they have it in for me already.
Landy dash mount switches have all way been a bit expensive so nothing surprising.

thanks drivesafe, I have email my LR parts guy.
My steering wheel has to come apart regardless as I recently had a incident with a 300mm steel bollard and did $20,000 damage to the front end, including both front airbags, got the car back last week (10 weeks later) and now have a small list of defects for the crash shop to fix, including the plastic trim on one side of the steering wheel.
So I will install the buttons when the crash shop has it apart.
Cheers

Hi again alinton, thanks for the info.
I have just picked up my switch block and, using your great instructions, I’ll be fitting it over the weekend.

Job done, easy. LR had the part to available with 24hrs, believe it or not!
Andy, what control did these buttons give you, at this stage (after 3 mins of playing around) I have worked out the following -
volume up/down (obviously)
channel seek (when on radio)
mode button switches from FM to CD, or if you hold it down for 3 secs it switches to AUX, but that is it, what about other FM's and AM
track change (when in CD mode)
Is this it or are there any more tricks.
Great tip Andy.
Cheers

BTW I forgot to mention, while I was picking up my switches from my dealer, the manager of the service section commented that they had a number of D3s booked in over the last week, to have the switches add to them.
Must be lots here in Oz that read this site. 2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

That's funny, I bet LR will notice a blip in dealers ordering this part and wonder why!!
Amusingly the dealer I got my part from (and 2 others at the same time) didn't know it could be done, and has now ordered some for himself and has fitted them to demo vehicles!
I don't know of any other functions, in fact I didn't know about how to switch to AUX.
So thanks for that!
Andy.

My steering wheel mounted audio switches are now installed. The SRS light needed to be reset by the dealer, but the install was a snap. It was exactly per the photos above.
Only one unexpected feature, the button to skip to the next track (CD mode) does not skip to your next radio station preset (in AM/FM modes). Instead, it scans the bands for the next signal and tunes it in. That seems odd. All my other vehicles just skip through the presets. Any one else have this issue?

Hi nwood, I have not installed mine yet but did you try either pressing then releasing, and pressing but holding it. ( If you know what I mean )

Had you disconnected the airbag?
In my D2 the steering controls act exactly the same - scans the band rather than presets, so must be a land rover thing! IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

I can confirm that on a Factory Fit set the scan buttons scan by frequency not by preset - a royal P-I-T-A! I will try the press-and-hold thing though to see if there is any difference.Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

I'm pretty certain that on my old Disco 2 the up and down rocker on the radio remote controls did not move up and down the presets - just the frequency. So, despite the fact that it's maybe not logical, the Disco 3 setup does "keep it in the family" so to speak.
