Does anybody know of any other manufactuer of wider roofbars to the standard land rover fitment? I have contacted thule, and they dont have the correct fitting for the T-track of the discovery's factory fit roof rails, can anyone help?

Don't quite understand your question. Are you after new bars that are not Thule or Land Rover, or a are you just after some T-track adapters that fit in standard Land Rover roof bars?

(The 'T-track' is the groove in the cross bars, not the roof rails and Thule do make a set of roof bars for the D3 that fit in the standard roof rails; so I am a little confused.)

If you have raised roof rails, with a gap between them and the roof, we can supply the following:

Thule 775 foot pack £64.00
Thule 769 bars £23.00
Thule 869 aero bars £45.00

If you have the model with a T-Track slot on the roof, we currently have no solution.

This is the reply i had from thule only a few days ago..., im confused also...

Have a look at items 762, 4700 & 4710. I think the latter 2 are the bits you need to adapt to the t-tracks. The 762 is the bar.

I'm not 100% sure these are right, but they were the ones I was told to try.

UK Roof Rack Application Guide

For your LANDROVER Discovery T Profile 04- NO FIT you will need either the Thule Rapid System or the Thule Traditional System.

Taken from www.thule.co.uk

I cannot find the 4710 product on the site...

Try www.car-roofracks.co.uk

They have always had the best deal for me in the past.

Paul,
Did you find a solution?

According to the last couple of dealers it seems that LR do not provide T-bar adapters for their own bars - they only provide very large 'U' clamps to wrap around the aero-bar, which is a little inelegant.

I've been on to Thule and they do 2 types of T-bar adapters, the TU697-1 & 696-1.

The various web sites list the smaller TU697-1 as 20 x 20mm, which would be perfect. However, the bits inside the box are 20 x 28mm (the lady checked a few for me whilst I was on the phone), which may be too long to fit in the slot before you can slide them down. I've ordered a set @£10 from roofbox.co.uk and I will see if they fit the OEM Land Rover bars.

Did anyone manage to get a better roof bar fitting sorted ? My hobby is white water kayaking and I am really frustrated at having a 7 seater car but a rather feeble and narrow LR roof rack that can only hold a couple of kayaks. A wider roof bar system would be a god send to me .....

This thread seems to have died without coming to any definite conclusions - here's a revival attempt.

I tried at the weekend to buy Thule rack system, for use a skirack next winter. The dealer here in Germany came back to me after consulting Thule and said they had no system for the D3. That seems to fit in with what some people were hearing in the UK.

However, other posts in this thread suggest you can mount a Thule system on the D3. What is right? Does anybody have experience/photos of a satisfactory roofrack/skirack, other than the official LR version?

Eric

Just tried to buy a Thule system for my disco because i've already got a set of aero bars and was told that Thule don't make anyhting suitable for a Disco 3.
If there is a way of doing this please let me know as otherwise I'll have to buy the OE bars from LandRover

Yes, that's what I heard from a Thule dealer too. However, k1w1 and chesters above seem to have found some solution. Maybe they can clarify that, if they read this.

Guys

I had the Hopkirk (Mont Blanc) cross bars on my D2 (they clamp round the factory fit rails), and wanted something similar for the D3. I spoke to MB, and they do a kit for the D3, although it does look like its for the D3 without roofrails fitted.

Have a look at www.montblancuk.co.uk at the system 3000 range

Hi Robbie

Did you get the T-bar adaptors? And, more importantly, did they fit?
