Don't mean to throw a spanner in the works here guys but I've just fitted roof rails and in the pdf the base of the foot quite clearly has an adjustable plate at the bottom that uses the T-track.

I don't undertand what you are saying the foot will attach to without roof rails?

I assume you mean that you've just fitted 'montblanc' roof rails?

I agree, the PDF does look like it has something that fits into the LR roof rail for the foot to attach to, but when I phoned MB, they said their cross bar kit was for D3 WITHOUT rails.

By all means, prove this incorrect, 'cause it will help a few of us.

Finally Atera Roof Bars and Thule fold down Kayak carriers.

I have just fitted my Atera roof bars, it only took about 1 hour. Also fitted 2 pairs of Thule 520-1 folding kayak carriers. Now I can have up to 4 kayaks up top. I will put some photos on my profile if anyone wants a look. Very Happy

Al, sorry, I don't wish to appear to be second guessing you or anyone and like most on here I'm looking for a good solution. Very Happy

It's just that the front end piece of the rail shown in the pdf directly corresponds with the shape of the front end piece of the LR t-track rails. The end of the rail reccess blanking strip looks nothing like it.

And the pictogram shows the foot being slid from the access point on the t-track rail towards the front of the track - something you couldn't do if you didn't have the t-track rails as there is nothing within the reccess strip strong enough to get purchase on.

I'm very confused Confused Crying or Very sad

Dick - no problem, as I'm hoping you're right. Its a pity I cant find someone stocking this kit so that I could take a look/try it.

United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham BlueDiscovery 3

Out of interest I looked at the Thule website in the USA and they show a fitting for the LR3 but the fittings are not the same number as those in the UK. So I phoned Thule in the UK to ask which fittings matched those in the USA and I was told that there aren't any and that the USA is different.

I couldn't understand whether they were saying that the Disco 3 roof rails were different in the USA or that the Thule fittings were not available here. They then checked with someone else in the office and I was advised not to buy Thule from the USA as it won't fit.

In any event they seem an expensive option and with the lack of Thule support I think I'll go elsewhere......

FWIW, I went to a shop near my office called www.racknroad.com, and they have Thule system that work simply and effectively, but not inexpensively. It's a two part system. The clamp thingie, TK-12 I belive, and then the elevated support pylon (I think a Thule 430 Rapid Tracker foot pack).

The foot pack (pylon mount) clamps into an oval shaped cross bar. Whole is rather nice and very easy to remove when desired. However, it is not cheap, and isn't what I was looking for. I'm looking for a way to mount a Hannibal aluminum safari rack. It came with hardware, but it's....wonky.

Regards,

NW

Can anyone tell me what I should do with the rubber strip when I fit these adaptors? Should I leave the strip right off, or cut it to fit around them?

Cheers, Stuart

Well they are not needed, just strip them off and store them away for another day.

I had a cut set and a un-cut set for my BMW (I bought bars secondhand), so I guess the previous owner bought an extra set. I don't tend to use either.

I wonder how much the rubber strips cost?
