Hi

The filter should be fine for the cheap oil, just replace it when you put the good oil in, unless the engine is very dirty, then you might want a fresh filter to use with the cheap oil.

Lidl do a cheap oil sometimes, I think it was about £8.99 for 5L when I was last in there and that would do the job for a couple of days.

We have a customer at work who used to use flushing oil at every oil change in their iveco vans, many engines changes later we dont do that anymore!
Admit it might not just be the flushing oil fault as ivecos are frankly utter rubbish!

I have some Redline MTL SAE70W80, API-GL4 Gear Oil left over from when I looked after another car

Would this be suitable for Manual Gearbox, D3, 2005 ??

Would it also be suitable for Front & Rear Diffs and/or Transfer Box ??

The MTL is ideal for the gearbox, but not the other bits.

You need a 75w-90 GL5 for the diffs.

The Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Redline 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal for the diff. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Gulf Syngear are also good choices.

Sorry, but I can't supply the transfer box fluid.

OK so looking at some advice for Engine Oil for D3 HSE MY2009. It has approx 62k mile on the clock so lowish mileage!

Whilst I can see recommendations for various engine oils, I have 2 x 5L of Asda (don't laugh) Fully Synthetic 5w 30w for Ford Engine, so it meets ACEA A5/B5 specifications, along with Ford WSS-M2C913-D, Ford WSS-M2C913-C. Originally bought for a D2 TD5oil change that never happened.

So simple question will this be ok for my D3, it does seem to meet specification, but obviously I don't want to damage anything.

Thoughts please would be good, thanks

Can you list recommended Engine oils, have tried to look on website and through trail here but failed miserably Sad seems there are so many to choosefrom have tried looking at various websites and get conflicts between fully and part synthetic, and spec A1, B5 and so much more Question Question Question

My D3 used mainly for road driving and some towing of Gigs (row boats)

So need to look after the heart of it!

Hi

The standard specs for a Disco 3 are pretty basic, you only need a B1 or higher 5w-30, so that could be a semi or full synthetic. As it's getting used for towing, I would go for a good 5w-30.

Fuchs Pro S, Motul 300V and Red Line are the best options, followed by the Castrol Edge, Mobil ESP, Millers EE and XF, Fuchs GT1 and Shell Helix Ultra Extra.

Hey,

Thought I'd refresh this subject with a new set of questions.

I've just changed the motor oil on my D3 TDV6 (MY08) with the auto, which I'm pretty sure has no DPF (at least my fault reader says so, when connected). I bought a service kit which included Fuchs Titan GT1 Pro-C2 5W-30. A few days later, I went to Fuchs site and used their oil chooser to see what oil they had for the diffs.

I was a bit surprised (and a little nervous) to see that they didn't recommend the GT1 Pro-C2 at all, but instead they recommended TITAN Supersyn F Eco-DT 5W-30. So, my first question is: how bad is this? Should I change the oil right away, or can I use the C2 until my next change, in about 8-10 months?

Also, about the diff oils, they recommend the following:

TITAN SINTOPOID FE 75W-85
TITAN SINTOPOID 75W-90
TITAN SINTOPOID LS 75W-90

They are all recommended for both front and rear diff, UNLESS you have the E-diff (I assume that's what they mean by "Differential, rear + ETM"?), then it's only the TITAN SINTOPOID LS 75W-90 that is recommended. In my particular case, I'm almost completely certain that I don't have the rear diff lock, so they should all work for me, but which one would be the best fit?

Unfortunately they don't recommend anything other than the OEM for the transferbox. Has anyone found a suitable alternative oil for that yet?

Hi

Fuchs always recommend exactly by the book and while that is fine, the GT1 Pro C2 is the better oil, so I would stick with that.

Yes, those are all fine for the diff and I have no real preference, although 75w-90 is the standard grade, so I would probably go for the Sintopoid 75w-90.

I would stick with OEM for the transfer box fluid, I have seen other things listed for it, but I'm not 100% sure they are suitable.

Thank you so much for the quick reply! I was afraid the C2 was more suitable for the DPF versions. As I've read and understood, the oils optimized for DPFs are better for the DPFs, but not quite as good for the engine, but I can go back to sleeping at night, then. Smile

Another question, if I use a pressurized dispenser for filling the Transmission oil into the automatic gearbox, and then want to use the same dispenser for filling the diffs, how careful cleaning does it need between the different oils?

Edit: Would you prefer another oil (ie not Fuchs) than these, or are they as good as any? Is GL-5 the important thing, when looking for a suitable oil for the diffs?

You need to be a bit careful with the ATF, those boxes can be fussy, so I would do that, then the diffs.

Yes, that was my plan too, to use it for the ATF first, but is it enough to just pour the last bit of ATF oil out of the dispenser, before I refill it with the diff oil, or should I clean it with soap and water and let it dry for three days? Smile Perhaps a silly question, but I'm a newbie trying to learn, and I don't wanna do costly mistakes.
