Hi

I would use a 5w-30 oil

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-653-5w-30.aspx

The best ones there are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Motul 300V, Mobil ESP, Castrol Edge, Shell Helix Ultra Extra, Millers XF, Fuchs GT1 and Red Line, but the Motul Eco-Energy, Mobil Super 3000, Shell Helix HX7 AF/AG and Fuchs XTR are good cheaper alternatives.

Cheers

Tim

We can send most of the things we sell to Spain, the only things we can't send are fuel additives and aerosols.

Hello,
What oil do you recommend for a 1999 V8 4.0 Litre engine? Some say mineral 20W-50 and manual says fully synthetic 0W-40...

Hi Peter

A 20w-50 is too thick, it will give very little cold start protection and won't flow properly when hot.

I would probably use a 5w-40 in the UK, but if you are in Sweden, I'd go for a 0w-40.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-655-0w-40.aspx

Those are all good oils.

Cheers

Hi Tim,

Bought gearbox and brake fluid for my wifes clio 197 cup from you and it transformed the car and am very pleased with it, however I have a question for my 2.7 HSE disco.

Under my extended warranty plan I have to get the disco serviced my a main dealer and they obviously use a standard oil fit for purpose, however I find that the car takes ages to warm up on the colder days so wondered if you knew if there was any upgraded engine oil that dealers would carry that might reduce this problem.

Would buy from you again, however my main dealer is unlikely to use and sign off 3rd party products.

Thanks

Hi

Good to hear the oils worked out well for the Clio.

Unfortunately, the problem with dealerships is that they will generally have one option for the oils, it's unlikely that they have several to pick from, so servicing with them will be a case of relying on the oils that they have. I wouldn't know what oils a dealership would have, although being a LR, I would assume it's Castrol Professional product, but as that is a dealership only product, I don't have the details.

Cheers

Hi

I would use a good 5w-30 oil for the engine.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-653-5w-30.aspx

Fuchs Pro S, Motul 300V and Red Line are the best options, followed by the Castrol Edge, Mobil ESP, Millers EE and XF, Fuchs GT1, Shell Helix Ultra Extra and Amsoil.

Unfortunately we cannot supply the transfer box oil.

Here is a bit of information on what we think about aftermarket oil additives.

Engine oil flush at service or not ?

I'm coming up to the annual service and oil change on my Disco 3 with 137k miles.

I want advice around using an engine oil flush in this engine. Historically I always used an engine flushing agent in previous Diesels I've owned until I once had Turbo issues (not on a Disco)

The turbo rebuild guy advised NOT to use a flushing agent because it breaks down carbon buildup even after the oil change. This carbon then gets moved around the engine and could damage the oil seals in the turbo. He suggested just doing regular oil changes with quality oil.

Any thoughts ?

Hi

It's very difficult to get rid of all of the flushing agent and they can be very harsh, so we generally do not recommend using them. It's better to give the car a change with a basic oil for a couple of days and let the detergents in that gently clean the engine, then put the good oil in.

Cheers

Thanks Tim,

Would you suggest changing the oil filter when adding the cheap oil for the few days, or change filter when adding the quality oil thats going in for the year ?

What would you suggest as a low cost temporary oil ?

Cheers Jason
