I subscribe to their videos as they tend to be enjoyable and there isn't much D3 content out there anymore. I especially like seeing them attempt big jobs from home, they're an oddly entertaining couple too.
But that's where I leave it. Advice on matters of maintenance and repairs are left to professionals, partly because I believe you need a significantly larger sample size than one or two before you can make any robust assumptions on best practice. I generally trust the OEM recommendations although have seen first hand some of the compromises they sometimes need to make to meet various requirements. My local indy has seen 2k + D3s over his 18 years in business, that gives me trust that he's seen what works / doesn't work across a breadth of TDV6s with different ages/mileage/historys.2007 Porsche Boxster (987) 2.7

If I heard it correctly within the first video about oil can drain from the oil filter and oil pump , however I thought there were check valves in both to prevent oil from draining , therefore keeping them primed , maybe I’ve totally misunderstood
As always , thanks a million and am so grateful for learning new things from so many extremely knowledgeable members
There is a check valve thing, but when left for hours or days some oil will drain down
Bless u as always Pete

If oil remained in the filter due to its location when you remove the filter bowl oil would flood the top of the engine in normal circumstances.
When doing an oil/filter change you should unscrew the bowl 4 turns and leave it for a time. This pulls the filter off its spigot which allows the oil to drain out of the bowl and down through the engine.
Many thks and makes sense

The problem is that the experts' advice is based not only on pragmatic criteria, but also on hidden objectives such as economic choices or environmental regulations. This is why everyone is reluctant to trust them, even if they are generally right.
People don't trust experts thanks to the internet strengthening the Dunning-Kruger effect. 5 minutes online and they think they know everything.
Plus 1, Alas use to get that a lot as more and more videos came online with regards to boilers etc , never forget a wife wasn’t amused that her husband had removed the boiler from the wall and laid out all the parts along the length of the worktop after it stopped working
For me to then say sorry u need a new boiler , plus at the end of the day he had placed some boxes in a cupboard and one of them had pressed against the boiler switch turning it off, his wife was not amused

Some people don't trust experts, because the so called experts also get it wrong.
Some people blindly follow experts like sheep, knowing they have expert advise to refer to excuse there failure. Some people only entertain whatever fits there own agenda.
Sadly common sense is in short supply all round.

Ur so right with regards to common sense as indeed can’t be taught , this should give u a laugh
Many years ago was working on a building site where they were converting an old fire station to flats
We placed several wc pans into the front room against the wall whilst working in the bathrooms to prevent them getting damaged , we asked the apprentice to drill the 4 inch holes in the bathrooms whilst working on one of the other units
could hear the core drill going for some time , on returning and where we had placed the pans against the bedroom wall the apprentice moved them away and was drilling several holes through the walls like a communal bathroom

At the end of the day it’s only advice, it’s how use it that’s key. I agree about common sense though but would also throw in taking responsibility for one’s own actions. But we digress.New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Honestly, I don't know how some people manage to sleep, waiting for the next instalment of their entertainment.

Yep, it is boring, personally I'd rather have personal interactions, discuss things with factual input and challenge opinions - 'IRL' as you probably know it.
The science of engine lubrication is molecular chemistry & fluid dynamics - something I'm not trained or experienced in. So I wouldn't second-guess those who are, the ones employed by the component and engine design & manufacturing companies, the ones that have ongoing liability and professional competencies. Things progress, manufacturers of ancillaries change and so do part numbers to reflect the changes, as designs are refined, then specifications of (for example) lubricants evolve, hence the changes during the life cycle of engines - something that isn't unique to JLR or Ford / PSA.
My field is electrical / electronic vehicle systems - thankfully governed by physics, not the black arts of chemistry & fluid dynamics, those that specialise in those fields command a high salary and for good reason. None of them appear to have youtube channels.
