The Volvo’s certainly a nice place to sit It’s only their short warranty cover and not being ready to move down to a sub 2 litre 4 yet that would exclude it for me.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Well took the dealer three days to call back with a price and we still have not spoken as its been several messages left both ways so don't know what the price is! Thing is if they had packaged me a great deal on the day - I was expecting a call back an hour or two later - then they might have got me. However, with the delay and the difficultly of convincing my wife why I should buy 'that ugly car' I have looked at the Volvo price list in more detail and I can get what I want from them for just over £50k after discount so that's the place to go for me. Thanks all for the help.
PS What is interesting is how much the trade price of my Euro5 D4 has fallen in the last year or so.
So typical LR customer service has sent you to Volvo. Seems to be a common theme. I had the same experience.
As for the value of Euro5 D4, great isn't it. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

I'm finished with diesel (all my other cars are petrol, don't use the Disco for towing and don't really need the low ratio gearbox) so would be going to a four pot if I got a Disco. Therefore don't mind the Volvo in that regard. Also as long as you go for a Momentum or Momentum Pro the XC90 is not silly money and discounts are strong. I still like LR as a product group and would be keen to come back to a RRS once the third row seats are no longer needed.
Thought the Volvo warranty was the same as LR (?).2014MY Discovery

It was the dismal dealer that put me off Volvo when I was buying the 5, they have since lost the Volvo franchise.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Funnily enough I have used Barnetts VW in the past and they have been excellent. The new Dundee Volvo franchise (John Clark?) is in the old Citroen showroom and I took a look in - not impressed with the surroundings or the (lack of) service - but I am sure they will find somewhere nicer in due course. At the end of the day I am more interested in the product than the garage and when you need seven reasonable seats then you have little choice. Without that a RRS or Velar would be an easy purchase...something for the future.2014MY Discovery

I used them when I had Hyundai, they were great, but the Volvo side were just awful. I’ve not been to the new Volvo showroom, I think I would try strathmore in Perth if I was to switch, which is on the cards.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

Have bought multiple cars from Strathmore (Camerons) other franchises and they are good to deal with. I am sure that Volvo would be the same with them. I think for me it is time for a change after 15 years with LR. Will be back in the future.2014MY Discovery

Dealers can be bad, but the d5 is far better than a Volvo in every category.
Even the back, which you can’t see when your driving doesn’t bother me any moreMike

That's very dependant on your needs. Take off-road ability out of the equation and the differences between the D5 and the other competitors come down to personal preferences and cost. As they're all much of a muchness.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Chris Harris was of the same opinion Tom. To be fair so was Clarkson about the 3 & 4 vs the old XC90. LRs USP was it’s rugged off road appeal, the irony to me is that it seems to be said the the D5 is even better off-road but doesn’t get the credibility for it.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Intresting comment about coming back to RRS. That was where I was looking to head when I next change my Disco. However a friend had a RRS that was virtually new. He came out in my D5 when we were away in France last August and came straight home and swapped it for a late D5. When I spoke to him about it he said
RRS is nice car but D5 is way better in virtua;lly every sense. He has now had the D5 for about 5 months and he still states he would not go back to the RRS no matter what he was offered.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange
