IMO D5 drivers seat is more comfortable than the D4 ..headrests also. I'm not worried if anyone else is comfortable in the other seats ...but I've had plenty of people in the back without grumbles 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Yep, 240hp and lighter by a third.
The one thing that put me off buying - no one at the local dealership bothered their ar se inviting me to one of their canapés and wine launch partys at the dealerships, nor invited me for a test drive or kissed my a e with a - can I help you Sir, despite having purchased four new cars from them, so guess what? Took a flight down to Manchester - Stockport and purchased one from Guy Salmond, never having taken a test drive in the thing. Mind you I’ve done that before.

I found the 2nd row seats in the D5 really comfortable! I'm 5ft 7 but then was chatting away with my friend for a good 3 hours. We really were 'the bitches in the back' for real ayiii Have driven a 2ltr D5 for the day, and it was the basic car given during a service. Wasn't keen on the driving position as I felt the top of the windscreen to roof angle a little too near my head, even after fiddling with the seat settings for ages. I'm sure I would of gotten used to it but would definitely have the panoramic roof to not feel so 'blocky' or dark if that makes sense ? I guess I'm just used to having light above my head (not just the halo ) It had a lot of poke for the size of the vehicle but still felt a need for a bit of extra oomph at the traffic lights when I was pulling away. I have driven a good number of them, 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre versions, and not just loan cars. I actually enjoyed the cars to drive - much more nimble than the D4 and D3 etc., etc., but I believe that it was worth pointing out the back seat situation having had passengers complain about them, and sampling them myself for long enough to be uncomfortable. If you look into something, and have been potentially warned of a weakness you can try for yourself, rather than finding out when it’s too late. If you try, and think they’re fine, then great, but spending a lot of money on a car that your family finds uncomfortable might be an expensive mistake.

Granted, but we could all find something we don’t like or consider poor that someone else has a contrary opinion on.
Mostly it’s down to personal choice or perception. ie. one of the kids who’s over 6’ drives with the seat very close to the steering wheel. I am an inch shorter than him and I have to put the seat right back before I even get in it, never mind drive it. The point is everyone is different.
That apart, I’ve had D3’s and 4’s, I can’t say I feel the seats are any different, front or back, but each to their own.

Never had a problem Tom, neither has my son, but the Cayenne is significantly bigger in the passenger compartment than a D3/4. What I was getting at was that just because a D5 doesn’t have stadium seats it doesn’t mean it’s a problem. I don’t find D4 seats that comfortable over a long distance they give me a numb bum which my Porsche doesn’t and by the sounds of things DG has a similar experience with his D5. At the end of the day we’re all different and different things suit different people. DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

Nasher wrote:I like the newest style FFRR, but the boot is tiny and you can't even put the rear seats down flat. The L322 is better boot space wise, but still smaller than a D4.
Of course, the L405’s boot is no where near as cavernous as the D4’s and the rear seat fold isn’t as good but, what is a surprise is that the floor area of the boot (seats up) is near identical to the D4’s, so it’s not as “tiny” as you might think. Combine that with a proper tailgate and a floor that’s as low as the D4’s and it makes a case for itself as a reasonable load carrier
I’m not suggesting that the Fatty is an adequate substitute for a D4’s as a load carrier. But with LR effectively having put the Discovery out of production, the Fatty may well be the closest new equivalent for those not needing 7 seats and Transit like carrying capacity. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

D5 is a reasonable load carrier and according to LRs dimensions in their brochures the D5 has a larger luggage space, being taller, wider and longer than the FFRR. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

The boot aperture on the FFRR appears to be larger than the D5 to me. Having compared them side my side in a showroom. I never actually measured them though, so happy to be corrected. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Never measured either, just going by the brochure perhaps the aperture may be smaller but having collected large items of furniture with my own one it’s still a reasonable load carrier. 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green
