Judging by the posts about crank failure it seems to be skewed towards earlier models and in the South African forums there is talk of LR beefing up some aspects of the crank from 2012 ( no idea if this is correct!), but it still seems to affect later models as well, and the lower numbers could just be down to the newer cars having less mileage so lower odds of failure D4 GS 12MY

I'm not sure if this is a feasible recall event? To redesign and replace the engine in every 3.0 application would be a very big job, maybe impossible.
However, to deal with the failures in a more compassionate way, and moving forward ensure that there are enough affordable available spares to allow the aftermarket to repair older vehicles is the way to keep customers on side as much as possible?

DG, I do not know the real extent of the problem.
But it's not small. Best LR indie in CZ (small shop) receives crank related request once per week. That's a lot, there are not so many LRs in Czech. He's involved with LRs for many years, he loves LRs but he advises against TDV6.
In Austria where I reside, out of ca 20 cars I checked when buying mine, 2 had new engine (crank issue).
On Czech LR forum, there's new report very often.
I had other cars, they had issues, but not such systematic, unpredictable failure of one component.
So I believe there's a problem.
For me, the biggest issue is a very poor policy by Land Rover.
If you can get replacement engine or parts for reasonable price, it would be immediately different.
I don't say new engine for free. But for a fair price.
But when LR wants to heftily cash on faulty engine second time, it's a thievery.

Despite what others take out of context ...I know there is a crank problem.
The numbers game determines whether its a big or small problem .....sales v failures. If peeeps are able to offer evidence in SA, UK, Russia, CZ or where-ever that there are X number of T\SDV6 Discos and X number have had a crank failure and the %age was say 5, 10, 15% ..then I would roll over and expose my belly in submission and beg forgiveness for my idiocy.
As it stands no one can supply figures which back that up. What we do have are independent figures that indicate the numbers are within range of what any manufacturer would consider normal.
Give me the darn figures ....sales v failures 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

DG, shouldn't it be LR who gives those figures? They have the data, or should have.
Why do you ask for it from car owners?

I agree ..in an ideal world all manufacturers should be completely transparent but we all know that is not going to happen. Unit sales information can be worked out but as for failures it seems that we have to rely on information provided by 3rd parties...e.g warranty companies.
I ask of it from those who are setting out to all that the figures are a lot higher. How is it possible to demonstrate that when the simple data required to definitively advise all owners of the risk of this particular failure is not forthcoming?
If I am wrong I will take it squarely on the chin ...but I and I'm sure others need the info to be convinced....rather than accept this as an elevated 'worry' 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

At the end, I do not need to convince anybody but me
And for me, with great regret as I do not have the replacement which would fulfill my needs the same way, I will eventually put my D3 for sale when my law-enacted protection is over. Risk-benefit ratio just fails for me, even if it is just 1% failure rate. It's too much for single point (for me).
It's a great car for my needs and if there exists good & clear policy by LR to supply replacement engine for reasonable price, I'd keep it. Or if there's an insurance option. But LR policy is such that replacement engine is just too expensive for me and I don't believe in durability of reconditioned ones. And insurance rejected to insure D3.
For others, it may of course be ok. I know a guy who's D3 broke (crank) so he just sold it for parts and got D4 HSE. But not everybody can do that.
