Is it my imagination, or does the backend look like an S-Max?There are two rules for success,
1. Never tell everything you know.

I see what you mean. The crease at the bottom of the doors is also similar. But luckily the similarities end there
Also from this pic I can't see how there could be a split tailgate. If it did split along the line above the number plate then the lower part would be way too deep. (IMO)Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond

It the tailgate is anything like what the 16MY is to close, then I'll take the single piece.
But based on my previous Disco 3/4 I'll keep the split.
That AE photoshop is poor, headlights and front under shield from the Evoque, the upper half is taken from the Disco Sport and shopped to have a step in its roofline, rear lights from Evoque and exhausts and rear under shield from Disco Sport, It won't be far off but I'll reserved judgement until LR release official images.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

There's another thing that goes against the possibility of a split tailgate; for a split tailgate to work effectively, the line along which it hinges has to be as straight as possible otherwise (when opened) the lower tailgate would need to be far too high and stick out rearwards a long was just so that the pointless curve on the tailgate clears the top of the rear bumper.2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

Have you seen it then
No of course I haven't. There's a clue in my sentence that you quoted.
I'd be extremely happy to be wrong though. Although I'm not sure if the D5 or whatever it will be called will be right for me. Like others here, I'm actually more interested in the Defender replacement, if such a vehicle ever comes to market.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I think I may be too ! The Discovery range is clearly being designated for the "Leisure" market and I don't think for a minute that they include "off-roading" as a leisure activity in the sense that we do features as a primary consideration ...though SVO may bring out a rufty tufty tricked up version at some point.
Defender should go some way to being not too far from providing the utility and practicality of the first D3's ..without the weight and tech difficulties though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Adjustment is everything - mine was a total pig but after a couple of rounds of adjustments by LR to both top and bottom gates then mine closes same as my d3 (i.e. 99% of the time)Also Gone : MY14 D4 SDV6 HSE : Barolo Black + Almond

It's going in to the dealers for a week to investigate knocking from the rear so will add the tailgate issue to the list.23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

IF, it looks like the photo, no practical w/arch protection, no practical stadium seating? (looking at roof line), a rear end that is effectively just another mundane hatch. Nothing about it is shouting "Discovery" and the only link to Landrover is that it looks like the current crop of c##p. You will have to check the badge for marque identification.
Now going to cool off.

I really hope that's the case. For me, my 2006 HSE slotted in nicely between the Defender and the FFRR and perfectly suited my needs.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I fear that if the split tail gate is dropped, the above will be the primary reason. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we eventually get a 1-piece tailgate but with a pull-out lower tailgate / step.

If so, I bet that it's on higher end models only though, or an expensive option.
Logically, I suppose it could depend on if a full size spare will be available and where it will be mounted.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
