The problem with the D3 is that it is set up for torque. Any one who drives with revs above 1900RPM or 70MPH is going to really suffer and I would estimate that 22 to 24MPG is fine if RPM is above the 1900 mark. The torque is at the bottom end as in most Landy's, so the D3 at 69MPH will more than likely return 28 to 30 MPG on a motorway. Put your foot down and do 75MPH and you will join the 22 - 24 MPG club.

Agreed, but I don't like being told that I have 450 miles range after filling her up, only to get 350 before it hits zero. The jump from 50 - 0 takes about 10 miles. In general, I fill at 1/4 tank now, it is safer and seems cheaper!

Gareth, some of the inaccuracy may be due to the totally unsuitable fuel tank. have you seen it. It looks like a coffin under the car, about 5 foot long and about 1 foot wide. For an off road vehicle it is rediculous, almost an after thought in fact. This may cause equal inacuracy in the fuel readings especially when the fuel is lower than a quarter tank. Most tanks are more or less rectangular. This is one of the reasons I think that LR have not connected the pre-heater.

The problem with that freeflytim is that we in the UK mainly have 2.7 diesels, not V8's and we pay around £3.91 per Imp Gall. As a result we would possibly go further on a tank, a little bit slower and be broke by the end.

freeflytim, yes we know, but don't hurt us by reminding us of the fuel price, especially as ours have risen again to anything between .87p to 91p per litre .

Hello, I'm leasing an LR3 V8 (Silver/Black SE with Nav). I'm on a thirty month lease and am already contemplating what to do when my lease expires. Of course, I absolutely love the LR3 but I'm a liberal tree hugger at heart and would like a vehicle that sips the petrol instead of chugs I'm expecially interested in the TDV6 that most of you are driving, but it's hard for me to understand how your mileage compares to mine. I get about 15 city 18 highway in US miles per US gallons. If the TDV6 does much better AND they are made available in the US I may purchase one. Anyone driven both enough to compare mileage and power? Anyone know the conversion factor for converting between your numbers and USA numbers. Thanks much!!!! Tony He's NOT my president.

Tony, 1 Imperial (UK) gallon is equal to 1.2 US gallons. Equivalently 1 US gallon is 0.833 Imperial gallons.
Therefore 24 mpg (UK) is 20 mpg (US), for example

TDV6 HSE Auto
22 mpg on short runs
25 mpg on longer runs/Motorways
22mpg autobahn (100mph on cruise control)
I have now done 9800 miles since 11th Nov and dont bother driving and looking at the fuel guage but am not thrashing it. I have had a couple of good runs across Germany (2500 miles) D4 HSE

Pelyma, the other way to really ruin your driving pleasure, but better fuel consumption is to brake gently. Imagine an egg on the dash board and you do not want to brake it. The moral is gentle accelleration to the 1900ish rev region and brake very early. You could possibly acheive 32MPG, but it does spoil the pleasure of the D3.

Also , turn off the air con, anything electrical that you dont need, you know sat nav the stereo etc . If an auto make sure when parked at lights its in N not D. Finally look ahead and remove foot from the gas earlier and then you wont need to brake / accelerate as much.
Alternatively having paid so much for the bloody car use it and worry about the bills later
