Numerous Problems....Less than One Day old. (used car) |
|
Gents
Just bought a 54 plate D3 from a reputable garage. I am only on page 10 of the technical threads and I have found a few problems, although some may be due to lack of knowledge of the vehicle. Any constructive advice would be appreciated.
(1) The parkbrake comes off without touching any of the pedals.
(2) Followed the manual but cant get the service interval information up on the screen.
(3) Uneven tyre wear on back wheels.(I should of checked, school boy error!)
(4) One boot gas strut loose.
(5) front brakes seem to be binding, may also be back, but not overheating, may be due to standing in a showroom for so long.
(6) Checked the distance from the road to the top of the wheel arch, 82cm, 82.5, 85, and 84. Is a 30mm difference too much, are there any guidelines on tolerences?
(7) Spacer kit required for passenger door mirror, wife cant see.
Do any seem like safety issues which require a swift phone call to LR?

thanks for the prompt reply.
Q6 referred to the geometry of the vehicle. After reading various threads I thought it leaned slightly to the drivers side. So I measured from the tarmac to the top of the wheel arches and found a 30mm discrepancy.
the parkbrake is my real concern though! Is it safe for the wife and kids?

Which wheels are approx ~30mm different? It wouldn't be a problem if say the lower heights were at the 2 front wheels, and the back was higher - I think this is the case anyway. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
SA - 07 VW Golf TDI - White - Sold!

When I switch the engine off and lock it the park brake lamp stays on, I thought this was a similar function to the courtesy lights! I believe it eventually goes out.
As for the heights, the front and rear geometry is only 5 / 10mm out.
Front left 82cm
Front Right 82.5cm
Rear left 85cm
Rear right 84cm
I may just be paranoid............I checked the heights last night (midnight) with a torch in the middle of the road after reading threads on the forum. Not sure the nieghbours share my enthusiasm!

Lamp on means park brake is working, It will go out after a while but the brake stays on. Is that the case, or are you saying the brake disengages and the car rolls away Duncan

What is the suspension height like with the engine running. Mine settles after swithcing off the engine, an doesnt always settle "perfectly" level, but nothing you notice without getting a tape measure out. Duncan

brake stays on, but to get it off I dont need to depress the brake, I just flick the parking brake down.
the vehicle height remained the same when the engine was shutdown. I put this down to the air system pressure taking time to dissapate.

I think your heights are fine. If it was leaning to one side, then I'd be worried. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

the park brake will release with 5% movement of the throttle.
