At a glance LR site refers to the FL2 lump as TD4, FL1 (used vehicles section) as Td4 and Defender as 2.4litre Diesel The End

From the brochures, they've dropped the Tdx designation and it's now TDx (all caps) for the Freelander. The Defender is just "4 cylinder diesel", it's not got a snappy name Farewell Td5 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

And a blooming good engine the Puma is too, although haven't driven the 07 Defender yet; that pleasure is coming later this year when we start to explore a replacement for the L200.
Burning question...... TFC, any real-world fuel economy improvements? I a rarely give mine all the beans (I save that for when you are sat in the passenger seat on unclimable hills) but economy since fitting the AT2s is now 25mpg, which is not brilliant. 25 miles of my 45 mile commute is at 55-65 with as little throttle as possible and the rest isn't exactly stop-start motoring, so I need to do something!I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

This post is intended to clear up the myths surrounding ECU programming.
There are several tools available to program the TDV range of engines from Land Rover, Autologic, CMD, Flashbooster to name 3.
Diagnos (makers of Autologic) was the first aftermarket company to successfully program the TDV6 Engine controller. This development was done with Turbochip (Chris John at the time), who provided the car. Once this was achieved successfully, the next stage was to program the vehicle with modified data. Turbochip provided the modified data. I won't go into the finer details, but if in broad terms if you mismatch the data (incorrect checksumming), the engine controller will not allow the engine to run.
Diagnos are a diagnostic design company and not tuning specialists. Turbochip, LR Tuning, J Fearn etc are tuning companies and not diagnostic specialists. It made sense therefore for Diagnos and TC to combine our individual skills, and as such launched TDV6 diagnostic tuning back at the end of 2005.
Diagnos obtained good (very good) tuned files, and TC were supplied with a light version of the Autologic that just tuned TD4, TD5, TD6, TDV6 (and now TDV8, I4 Freelander and the Puma (not TD4) Defender engine).
For 10FC to claim that one system is piggy backing another, and that a specially designed system is better is nonsense.
Manufacturers have many different tune files for the same engine (different market settings and also revisions to old software to cure problems such as bad cold start or DPF clogging). It is vital, that the correct modified tune is matched with the standard. Tuning companies tend not to know what data is in an ECU, so they read the flash memory, modify it and then write the modified data back to the ECU. They will generally still not know the specification of the tune.
Autologic on the other hand does. We have a library of all standard files that could be fitted to all Land Rover engine controllers. Furthermore, this library is kept up to date as new standard files are released. Autologic units have an on-board library of all standard and all tuned files currently available. It is not necessary to read the memory from the ECU, as the file ID can be read diagnostically and matched to a file in our COMPLETE database.
In short, most tuning companies tune vehicle individually as they can not guarantee that they have seen an ECU standard file in the past. The actual tuner whoever he might be will use software that will identify the map areas in the file he is sent, and apply the same proportional modifications to that data that he made to the original ECU that the modified tune was designed for. Individual? Yes, but very naive if the vehicle owner believes this to be any better than using a modified library tune that has already been matched to the standard file loaded into their vehicle.
The results from most tuning companies are similar to each other and different people will prefer different tunes.

ADB,
Is there a choice of power levels available with your autologic remaps?
From what I've read it seems 'one file fits all' rather than giving the customer a choice....dont wish to be negative but I personally would prefer a bespoke remap rather than exactly the same as my neighbours car

not defending TFC (he'll do that himself) just wondering why you state that you, yourself know little about tuning and then tell someone else to pull their head in. you make two posts and they're both negative. I'm just wondering if you are a little concerned over the current situation.

, can we end this thread.
As I see it, there are different re-maps available & all claim to do increased power/toruqe &, decreased MPG (if you choose to drive that way).
They work in (generic terms) similar ways, how it's applied and at which level may differ perhaps & I understand you're all passionate about your own products that you sell. Can we save the 'My One's better than yours' for your marketing teams (or whatever) to battle it out elsewhere.
I'm interested in getting a re-map at some point but I'm getting fed up of this crap & it's quickly putting me off the whole idea.
I'm removing myself from notifications on this topic as it's just got so Bodsys Brake Bible
