I don't know whether this will work but it did on my 3 series. Who knows, they may have brought the rain sensor control over from the RR which would mean they are BMW driven. Let me know if it works or not.......
The rain sensing wiper in a 3 series can be deactivated so that the car returns to intermittent wiping. With the engine still running, move the wipers to the off position, then turn off and remove the key. Put the key back in, turn on, and then move the wipers up to the intermittent / rain sensing position. In the 3 series, this would have returned them to intermittent wipe, with the knurled wheel controlling the time between wipes.
Good luck............ Java TDV6 HSE with Alpaca and a few other fancy bits

There is a delay before the wipers start up so you can wash without wipe, if you 'squirt' for less than 0.5 secs the wipers won't come on. So on auto if the squirt doesn't go on the rain-sensor the wipers won't come on
This isn't the issue on mine--I can sometimes hold the wash button for 2-3 seconds (that's a lot of wash!) and the wipers never come on.
It's just an oddity, and it's not a biggie.
About shutting off the auto feature--not sure why you'd want to here in the USA, we have both an auto and an intermittent setting on the stalk.
I bet the dealer can indeed adjust the sensitivity--because when mine are working well (say, 98% of the time), they do work really well. So maybe some folks sensitivities are off. '05 LR3 HSE

There is a sensitivity setting in the CCF, but only a dealer can alter it.

mine first up is auto, second is always slow (when moving) third is always fast.
The dial is supposed to be sensativity, but I don't notice a difference. Wa Hoo

I thought the dial was for the rear intermittent wiper. I didn't think it had any affect on the auto sensing position.

Nope. The manual sez the dial is for front sensativity. The rear wiper has a mind of its own!
Try this... next time its 'kinda' raining, roll the dial back and forth, the front wipers will wipe when you hit the 'flat line' on the top of the dial.
It still, IMHO, does not change the sensativity of the fronts.
The rear wiper runs when it wants to... using vehicle speed and the front wiper sensor as a 'trigger.' Wa Hoo

On non-rain sensor vehicles the dial changes the timing on the rear too ! If you have just the rear wiper going or with the fronts too - either on intermittent or any other front setting.

Funnily enough, I have been adjusting my stalk (no puns please) for months now trying to see a difference in how the 'auto front wash sipe sensitivity' adjustment had..... and Ive come to the conclusion it does absolutly nothing.... but if you have the rear wipe on, it seems to adjust that, but enen that seems 'when it feels like it', according to the manual it should work on the front only.
But I suppose it is a LR manual, with 'undocumented' adjustments and features

They are very sensitive Often when turning the steering wheel franticlly to get into a tight space, we end up pushing the horn and giving a fright to all the pedestrians watching us manouvre the disco. Also when cleaning the car inside, I find myself tooting the horn when I dust the dash and wheel.

Been there done that on the first day Whilst trying to look as if I had it several months. Allie
