Braking Issues.
Hello,
I have a Disco 3 TDV6 automatic, I have noticed recently that the brakes seem to not stop how they used to, I have had all the calipers, pads and discs inspected and they are all ok with a lot of life left in the pads.
The issue is that the Disco will slow down as normal to crawling speed but to come to a complete halt it feels as if the pads just dont want to grip and it rolls on even with extra pressure on the pedal, its even worse braking for a junction with a downhill approach because the weight of the vehicle adds to the problem.
The first time I noticed this was breaking hard from about 70mph, I am wondering if the pads have faded and glazed over, I have only owned the Disco for 10months so I dont know what brand of pads are fitted.
I have read about the V8 brake conversion kits but dont want to change just yet as there is still life in the current ones.
Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks Charles.

Big round black thing, that the brake master cylinder bolts onto
Try and get a new O-ring, and grease it up when fitting, as they tend to tear, and loose vacuum pressure again.
If you wanted to upgrade the servo, fit one from a TDV8/SC RRS My D3 Build Thread

Brake Issue
Thanks for your replies, I guess the servo not giving enough pressure would be how it feels when it comes to a halt, I am contacting my garage man first thing in the morning and will get back to you about the servo you have for sale.
regards Charles
Take a look under the bonnet at the servo, it should look like this after the recall has been done

Seems that you have got oil in the servo. My vehicle did not have the recall for this done. but I did not notice anything and no one told me about this, eaven @ the dealers when I had it for service. but thanx to this forum i found it out. I needed the servo and a pump due to oil gotten too far in and was close to lousing all the breaks.
After replacement i felt the breaks did not work as good as before. I was used to that the braked was agressive. but now i had to push harder on the break pedal. Me thinks that cause of the extra wiring in the picture that Hobgoblin shows. I asked the dealer to have a look at it and they say its fine. Has anyone else noticed this after this recall?

Checked with Main Dealer for the recall related to the brake servo and found it had been done when it was with the previous owner, whilst on the phone I asked about using a V8 servo to give it a boost, they said I would not gain anything at all by using one. I was wondering if anybody has fitted one and found a differance.
I took my Disco to another Indy garage as the brakes still didnt feel right, they found the front driver side wheel bearing badly worn and also a bolt on the rear nearside lower suspension bent, the garage said it was possibly not loctited in when some previous work had been carried out. They suggested that the bearing having lots of play could have been pushing the pads off the disc, so £300 later as the bearing came in a carrier and the bent bolt replaced I took the Disco out for a run.
After a couple of days back and forward to work the brakes feel a lot different certainly an improvement over what I was getting before, so it may have been down to the bearing or the brake strip down helped.
Annoyingly it is now giving error warning lights and messages then lowering the suspension after about 3 miles, it says HDC system fault, then special programs not available suspension lowered, if I stop and remove the igniton key and restart then everything goes back to normal. I can drive about another 2 miles and then the error reappears. I have to use it to get to work will it cause any damage by driving with the suspension lowered.
I am guessing a sensor somewhere has been disturbed, does anybody have any suggestions, also are there any recommended methods of jacking up as I was wondering if it being jacked up on each corner with a trolley jack has caused anything.
It is going back to have the fault code checked at the end of the week, hopefully this will help.
So am a bit miffed at the moment.

Have the same problem. Checked on the AA's recall pages and lo and behold, fault revealed and something like 5456 cars were affected. It's between a certain VIN range, mine fell within and so I called LR Customer Services. I quoted the recall number (dates back to 2009) and she denied all knowledge. When I asked her to check my VIN number, I was put on hold for a long time whilst she spoke to her supervisor and then admitted that my car was indeed affected. However, I must book it in with a stealer so they can "assess" before a decision is made!Zermatt silver beast
