I had similar issues with mine - it would stop normally just fine, but when you needed to pull up sharply - nothing!!! This was AFTER the Recall had been done, too ...
On a quiet piece of road, try an emergency stop - if the pedal goes very hard, your servo's full of oil.
As my case above shows, there have been several instances where the Stealers have not checked the servo for oil properly (changing it can be a little awkward); they fit the pipework mod and send the car back out!
As to the 'V8 Servo' - the one you need for such an upgrade is the item that is fitted to cars with Brembo brakes. The 'normal' V8 servo is the same as that fitted to the diesel models.Regards,
Mick

I had the servo issues on an 07 plate - classic symptoms were gradual braking for a sustained period (i.e. slip road when leaving a motorway) and then having to brake hard at the end of it (so if the traffic unexpectedly came to a halt on slip road). Felt like there was no servo assistance at all - exactly as the OP described. Had a couple of horrible moments Also had it on an offroad day - even at slow speeds it was hard to bring the vehicle to a total stop.
Couldn't be replicated by going out and stamping on the brakes and doing an emergency stop.
Recall work was done and it was fine afterwards BUT the recall is a progressive thing - the further oil had made its way through the system, the more bits needed replacing. Mine needed a servo and new master cylinder I think - hassle with Harwoods of Basingstoke who would only cover half of the work under warranty. Spoke to LR direct and they covered the lot.

I checked my engine bay after confirming the recall had been done and yes the extra bits are there as in the photo, the more I read the replies exactly what others have found is how mine still feels.
My Disco is on a 56 plate would there be any point in persuing the matter with LR direct, if so where do I write to?.
I am using an Indy garage who has helped no end with the other issue I had, warning lights coming on and the suspension going into access height mode after replacing a lower suspension bolt at the rear and a wheel bearing at the front.
The error code showed up that the 4 wheel alignment was out and it was sensing the vehicle was not steering correctly, today I had the alignment done and it showed it was miles out. Since I picked it up there have been no more issues with the ride height going into safe mode and dropping the vehicle. Next job to get at the servo to check for leaks.

If you wanted to upgrade the servo, fit one from a TDV8/SC RRS

Thanks for information on which servo to go for, if I do change it then I will definately go for that one and at a later stage go for the bigger brake conversion. That feeling of is this 2 tons of Discovery going to stop in time is scarey. Thanks for your helpful posts guys.

I had exactly the same problem and when i checked with the dealer in Bangkok and they said that it was already changed when the recall order came. I kicked up a big fuss and also got UK Landrover involved and finally they agreed to do another change for me. My logic with them was probably they fitted another defective part and that was why I am still have the same problem. It was frightening to try stopping but the vehicle keeps moving forward:(
Chuck, will you keep me informed of the outcome. I nearly rear ended a car today, exact same symptoms as others (after about 3 pushes of the brake pedal there is nothing on the fourth push). My vin number doesn’t fall within the numbers on the AA’s list, My vehicle has the same pipe work as the picture above but disconnecting the pipe just after it leaves the servo clearly shows oil contamination, if I blow into the servo via this pipe and create a little pressure and let it go, the air coming from the servo smells of oil??. Not sure where I stand?, should it have had a recall?, has a part failed that shouldn’t causing oil contamination in the servo etc. Mine is a 06 model.
Cheers,
Paul.
BTW, it's nearer 3 Tonns

I think this is the part number for the Supercharged brake servo SJJ500080
Can the servo be changed without disconnecting the brake pipes on the master cylinder? You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

Chuck, just to let you know that i think things may be looking up for me. Conwy LR did my servo recal in Jan 2010, i have spoken to the service manager who says the pipe/valve was changed along with the master cylinder and SERVO!. The part number on my servo is SJJ500010, in 2008 the part number changed to SSJ500090.
So, if my servo (full of oil) was changed in 2010 as they say, why do i still have a servo (full of oil) with a 2008 part number??. LR customer services are looking into the matter.
Fingers crossed!!

Hopefully I have cured my braking problem by having the servo replaced yesterday, I have only covered about 10 miles but it seems to be stopping how it should. I will see what part numbers are on the servos both old and new when I pop up the garage to sort my bill out..
My Indy garage spoke to the LandRover dealer when ordering the servo and asked if it should have been done under the recall but was told some fairy story , and that they did only certain years. But not my year.
Oh well I will see how this week goes.
All sorted now , New valve and pipe work (again) but this time, new servo, master cylinder, slave cylinder, brake fluid, and the obligatory wash and polish. All this done free or charge by Land Rover on a 7 year old vehicle with no warranty. Admittedly the correct procedure should have been carried out on the first recall back in 2010 but they sorted this problem out quickly and professionally, so a big to Land Rover Customer Relations

Glad you got yours fixed especially at no cost. Mine is working fine again with just a new servo ,although I wish I had gone to Land Rover like you did to save a couple of hundred pounds.. I think I will write to them anyway to state the problems I had even after the recall work had been done.
