I'm going to put it into the filler hole on the gearbox itself. Anyone have any idea what type and size of tool I need to undo it? I'd go check but my driveway is still snowed over and don't fancy being under the car any longer than I have to.
Cheers

All you need is a Allen key, the type that fits on a socket set ratchet, put the off side wheels on ramps, or jack up the off side (and support on axle stands obviously) this has the advantage of tipping the car up so the transmission drain plug is upper most, keep the engine running or lots of fluid will pour out and squirt the shudder fix in . . . . seemples Never get mad - get even !!

Quick update - Kav1187 - it does take ages for it to run down, I wonder now if it might be better to do it when the engine's not been run for a while so there's less in the outlet hose. That said I've been out driving around most of the day & it's not juddered once, so it is well worth persevering

Thanks mate. I'm still drip feeding it. Pop out every 15 minutes or so and get a couple of squirts out. My car's been parked up for a couple of days and I was starting to think it might be better to do it when the car is hot as the oil would be slightly thinner
Ah well...I'll persevere. Hopefully it'll make it run smooth until I can get a megaflush done

How different to read all about your guys freezing ambient temperatures, while we dying of heat here, were between 30 and 43 deg C this week.
I have had major shudder in my gearbox, especially when on safari towing a safari trailer, added Dr Tranny 25000km away and it,s still absent.Smooth like new..
Also filled my box with Fuchs ATF 4400s not Shell

i've been reading about the Dr Tranny lubeguard transmission fix.
my D3 has done 141,000kms and i've started to feel the shudder.
had the transmission oil looked out, and although it is old, its not black or burnt.
is it worth my while to do a flush, replace it with a steel sump (With external filter) setup to make it easier to service later, and then add the lubeguard ?
or just add the lubeguard now ?
appreciate the advice.
cheers,
bashir. 2009 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE

Well, tried to add Dr Tranny preventively through the oil cooler pipe but I can't get it in. No matter how long I wait, the ATF level won't go down.
To cold to do this now since it's about freezing temeprature here?
Should I run the ATF warm and jack up the car on one side? CLUB ILLEGAL CAR WASHERS

The filter is not external - or at least it is not on the one I had fitted - the metal sump pan is as fitted to BMW's with the same box, and the filter is a separate component, but still within the box itself - the advantage with using it on the D3 is that it can be changed without having to break the old one off. Still not a trivial job, but shouldn't need doing that often. Mark.

its far easier to drop the under tray and remove the filler plug on the right hand side of the gearbox, then squirt it in. start the engine before removing the plug to keep the oil level down. took me 20 minutes.

Yes Also helps to put the right hand wheels on ramps, or Jack the right hand side and support on stands.

thanks anglefire - your right, not external, just easier to replace later on
gareth, you did this when the D3 was on level ground or lifted on one side with the car running while adding the Dr Tranny fluid ? 2009 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE

yes lift the right hand side a bit. I put both front and rear wheels up on ramps, not a drop leaked, and the Dr tranny squirted straight in.
