Chaps, I'm fully aware of the problem there seems to be and the knowledge gained through the site is a real help to everyone BUT.
At the certain risk of a virtual kicking here - How do you justify posting pictures of tyres so dangerously worn. From a safety point of view it's a wonder some of you aren't posting from the grave.
Regardless of what caused the wear how often do you check your tyres and pressures ???? Come on, you are asking for a massive accident. Apart from the current issue, what about, cuts, bulges, sidewall damage, tyre pressures. The small contact patch of your tyre on the road is all you have to stop, go, change direction etc etc so regardless of how fantastic your car is, it's only as good as the tyres.
Lecture over.
Christian"To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
And as for wear on the picture I copied from another post - the whole tyre is worn down to the TWI tread wear indicators, so the whole thing is scrap regardless of issues look at the fines:
From Kwik-Fit website - A regular check of your tyres can help you to avoid up to 3 penalty points and £2500 in fines (per tyre) for having tyres worn beyond the legal minimum limit fitted to your vehicle.

Only two weeks earlier it was OK, and I had already slotted in the time to go the 550km to get them replaced. It's alright if you live in a country where the nearest shop is 2 seconds away!
Due to the wheel alignment problem, the bit that was worn through was the ONLY contact patch.
So pull your head in!Have a nice day!

I check my tyres fairly regularly as well but having had Wranglers on a number of 4x4s, I know how quick these crap tyres sprout problems.
So I concur with Jamo, pull your head in 90BHP.2008 TDV8 RR Lux + 2009 D4 2.7

amazing then that the entire tyre is down to the TWI if only the worn bit was the contact patch - my mistake "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
The wranglers appear to have a much softer inner compound than outer. This softening would appear to commence before the TWI.
We do not have the roads that you have. I work in three adjoining shires. The shire I live in is larger than Belgium. Poor roads, often unsealed.
Where I live, I either accept another set of wranglers (and wait two weeks for them to arrive) or I buy decent tyres in the nearest 'city' (Albany: Popn ~25000). That is a 550km (340mi) drive one way.
The accelerated wear of the wranglers caught me by surprise as I've never ever had a set of tyres do this.
I agree that the tyres should have been replaced prior. IF POSSIBLE.
This is not a whinge, just a statement of the facts.Have a nice day!

I understand your issue getting tyres but, they are so worn that it didn't happen overnight and I have seen people die with tyres in better condition. over here we have the rule of the 7 P's.
Prior Planning and Preparation Prevents p1ss poor Performance. If you had fewer fuel stations would you always run out of fuel - No thought not, why not - because you plan. Therefore with good vehicle checks you would see you are approaching the TWI.
There is no excuse they could let go at any point. Not only could you end up in an accident you may take others with you . . . .
I’m sorry if you feel I’m having a go, but this is a real safety issue, that you are making excuses for. It’s not safe, neither is driving after a few beers – and you wouldn’t do that."To finish first, one first has to finish ...."

The rule of the 7P's - that's good, 90BHP! I'll have the wifie embroider that onto the little velvet cover she has made for the top of the dashboard - it will remind me to crawl all over the Disco before I head out each day, looking for wear and self-detaching bits. I must be very lucky that I've not had problems in the past with all those vehicles that have gone for a couple of hundred kms. without their daily inspection
Seriously, we now know the Wranglers are rubbish and I'll be keeping a close watch on mine. Actually, with the number of punctures I've had with them, the inspections have been frequent enough....Ex Defender 110 200Tdi owner.
OK 90BHP, you're right, you're winning! At the end of the day I'm responsible for the worn tyres.
I just don't appreciate having to replace a $2000 (800GPB) set of tyres after just over 20,000km. (note: I do an average of 1000km a week)
Furthermore, they were above the wear limit only two weeks earlier; and having the car booked in for a week later and having got 40000km out of the first set, I thought I had more mileage left.
It seems to me a combination of crap tyres and an unacceptable wheel alignment problem led to my dilemma.Have a nice day!

For the record, I check oils etc every 2 days and tyre pressures ect every fortnight. I've increased the latter timing since this last problem
BTW 2500GBP per tyre is ridiculous. A fine at this level is not a deterent, it's blatent revenue raising (I know you don't make the rules, Christian, so this is not directed at you). This sort of fine only affects those in lower socio-economic circumstances.Have a nice day!

Just got pinged doingg 80kph in 60kph zone. Even the cop admitted I was driving safe for the conditions; clear divided road with no other vehicles. $231 pus 3 points off . This guy always hides whre he will get the numbers, I usually spot him but just had sinus op. so not my best at ther moment. Seen him often just coming out of a 70 zone into a 90 (yes just as you speed up!) Definite revenue raising.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Guys, apart from the tyre issue and you guys do seem to have some of the P's there - poor - Service sinus op - ouch, I was in Hospital over Christmas with a sinus issue and stupidly high temperature, not good.
Your point system is the reverse of ours (IIRC) you start with points and loose them for offences. 0 points and you're out ? But ban is shorter ?
We start at 0 and aim to stay below 12, or it's dust the push bike off for a while !
Jambo - you have pm"To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
I just like to add that LR were not a problem. They did (are doing) the geometry reset under warranty and the car is at 75,000km. I've never had to fight Land Rover to get any of my warranty work done.Have a nice day!
