Guess where my car is going after the Salisbury trip. Yup, both rear tyres worn to 2mm on inside edge while outside still has 6mm. Luckily I bought some spare wheels recently with Wrangler AWs on, so have put those on for Salisbury and will get the car in to Westovers next week.
Still loving it though I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Crikey NoDo$h, I thought mine were bad with 4mm on inner edges and 6mm outers, fronts wearing unevenly too, n/s more on outer edge, o/s more on inner edge........... I have had alignment checked / adjusted slightly,(going by the readout figures), steering wheel now off to the right when car going straight which is a tad annoying, but will have to see whether there is any improvement on the uneven wear front. Why can't they get this right from the start? I'm not sure I believe all this 'bush settle' nonsense.

I called in at Nene 4x4 to get a new Cooper STT the other day, and as he was inspecting the bald-on- the-inside-edge Wrangler that was coming off the wheel, he told me that virtually every tyre he's seen off a D3 does this to some extent.
Mine has been aligned, and is much better than it was, but it still wears the inner edge of the rears first.

Touaregs have a similar problem, but VW blame it on the stepper motor (whatever that is). I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I bought a set of 19" wheels from a 'metropolis' owner who wanted a bit more bling, which I will put on soon, but apart from slightly more wear in centre of tyre on these, suggesting they may have been overinflated a bit, surprisingly the wear looks pretty even .(pirelli scorpions). This car was slightly younger than mine, so perhaps LR have got it right on later D3's.

The wear on my tyres is very even indeed - 4mm inside 5mm middle, 4mm outside - suggesting slight underinflation only. Sounds like there's something wrong with my D3 if everyone else's tyres are wearing unevenly!

mine are wearing evenly now after dealer had a second go. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Car booked in for 3rd and 4th April, earliest they can supply a loan car. Their first shot was "we can do it next week, but need the car for a couple of days". Ok, says I, what loan car will there be? "Oh that's far too short notice to give you a loan car" ::scoffing laugh from dealer ::. A total difference to the attitude from the sales staff. Quelle surprise.
Unbelievable that at this level they are happy to book cars in for 48 hours of work without having a loaner available . I wonder if they rely on people using LRA if there are sudden problems with a car? Doesn't bode well for the ownership experience once LRA expirese after 3 years.
It strikes me they have a typically British 1970s production mentality to backlogs and could do with a few lessons in lean processing and just-in-time delivery. Maybe my next client? I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Hooray for LR Customer Service. After much gnashing of teeth on my part, they agreed to meet 50% of the cost of my replacement tyres, as a goodwill payment. The oddest thing of all was one CS Rep stating categorically they would not pay anything, with a call a day later from another saying they would. Left hand / right hand???? Is that just for the uneven tyre wear?

I've just got them to agree to replace both my front tyres free of charge, rear ones are fine and both have 5mm of tread left - cost might be down to how many miles you have done, Ive only done 9k. Having the tyres fitted by my dealer on Thursday, they are also changing some settings - not sure what though as geometry settings were corrected at 5500 miles and they said that they were ok when they checked them last Wednesday. 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Well done all of you who have received compensation from LR. After 4 months of hassle, LR have just confirmed that they will NOT help with cost of tyres.
To add insult to injury, my dealer has sent a £120 bill for setting up the suspension and taking the vehicle to the LR 'Authorised' alignment specialist ! LR insisted that this 'Authorised' specialist was used - and I have to pay !
Sadly, due to this debacle, I will not be returning to my dealer for a replacement Discovery.

It's not a case of 'well done all of you' is it? There is a TSB issued and therefore if the vehicle is suffering from the specific issue detailed in the TSB then it should be fixed regardless. Is there some other dynamic to your case? Could the wear be caused by some other factor...towing for example? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

It's probably more to do with LR's rules regarding compensation, I believe that they dont like giving compensation if the car has done more than 15k miles or is more than a year old. A lot does depend on the dealer though, if you have a good one then you are more likely to get the problems sorted to your satisfaction, if not .
My car had only done about 8500 miles when the problem was found but was about 15 months old, but after showing the damaged tyres to my dealer they sorted it all out in a couple of days and got the tyres replaced at no cost (I only expected LR to contribute to the replacements). I had though spoken to LR customer services about the problem before seeing my dealer and they said that if the dealer confirmed the damage and cause they would look to some form of contribution.
I would'nt give in and if the TSB definitely includes your chassis number then you should not have to pay for the alignment either, have you spoken direct to LR about it? 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold
