Noise on throttle and vibration |
|
I've owned my 06 disco HSE auto with 96k and fsh for 2 months now and I've noticed a strange noise when applying slight throttle it's similar to a heat shield rattling noise, when I give it more throttle or let off all together it stops, over the last 2 months it's got slightly worse.
Since last week every now and then there's a very faint vibration in the steering wheel and foot pedals and when driving around the town I can hear a noise as if the brake pads are slightly stuck on but it doesn't feel as if it's being slowed down.
Could these be connected in anyway and any idea what the cause is and any recommendation's for a good Indy near me on the north west coast of wales?

My own car has done this for the last 26k miles.
I believe it is due to the way the air is flowing through the turbo vanes, as any change in throttle angle will affect the requested levels of boost... I think My D3 Build Thread

mine was a loose connection between the two exhaust sections. Probably not tightened following the TC replacement. 2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.

DM - it definitely appears to be related to the turbo and I suppose if you live with it we should do the same until you figure out what it is
One thing I would note is that although it can heard when driving based on throttle position (it's quite loud), it is not audible if the engine is revved in neutral.
Cheers

Hi all, i have the same noise. I think its the torque converter lock/unlock mechanics that create the noise, as you cannot hear a thing when in neutral. When in steep hill the noise is noticable when the converter goes from slipping(unlocked ) to gradually lock itself. Thats my opinion, and if im wrong i would be very happy

Stav I had that noise - more pronounced in low range - or at least a different mode to normal (I.e. Mud/ruts etc) Mark.

I did consider it to be a torque converter, or gearbox noise, but mine only does it with the TC locked
Though the engine noise may be a bit loud to hear it when the TC is unlocked... My D3 Build Thread

I do not think it is turbo related since mine is a V8 and it appears to have the exact same noise described in this post.

Mine does this too, but only when I have the lightest of pressure on the throttle. I couldn't find anything loose when I looked underneath her, as I thought it was a heatshield rattle too.
There is a different but (in my opinion) related noise when I first set off in a morning. After leaving the car to completely cool overnight there is a clunk as the revs rise just before the first gear change (from first to second), but then every other gear change after that is perfect. I assume it's a torque converter fault but I'm no expert so I don't know. She's getting a gearbox oil change at the next service and I'm hoping that and a Dr Tranny infusion will cure it.
If not it does sound like a very expensive rattle...

Oil change and Dr.Tranny will not cure the sound. What ive noticed though, is that the sound almost disappears, if you are a bit aggresive on the throttle. obviously do not try this in heavy traffic!!!!
