What a sad and twisted world that anybody could even compare the two.

With that answer I'm not so sure you understood the context correctly. There is clearly a wide spectrum when it comes to sexual harassment and I am suggesting that even though these points may be at opposite ends of that spectrum..they are nevertheless using the same premise which is "she did her hair \ make up \ low cut dress \ mini skirt and therefore she deserves it* (*put in place anything from any point of the spectrum here)

I understand all too well, there's still no comparison.

That's your view and you are entitled to it ... but your answer again indicates to me that you are still focussing on what you see as more abhorrent out of the behaviours or action and missing the point of my argument which is the way that someone presents themselves should never be perceived as an invitation to carry out any of them. Okay then,

Girl puts on her tallest heels, shortest skirt, lowest top and heads out over the local common at dusk knowing full well it's the haunt of local weirdos.

She gets assaulted.

Does she deserve it? No.

Does she bear some responsibility for the incident by flaunting herself in a high risk area? Yes.

Only a well meaning, wooly minded, liberal would suggest she should be able to do what she wants. They fail to understand that the rest of the world is not full of well meaning liberals like themselves.

This Barrister puts up a photo of herself looking good, she might expect that some bloke might, with the nicest of intentions, compliment her.

Take responsibility for what you do, the result might not always be to your liking. Live with it.

I found the contrast on the articles about this subject today from The Mail & The Guardian amusing Smile
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-32...d-web.html

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2...n-offended

I just read it as an compliment myself. Although Linkedin isn't intended for such comments, I was surprised by her reaction.

There's no requirement for a photo, but if you're going to add one, then surely it will be one that you consider to be flattering. As is surely the case here.

ahh ... this defines LinkedIn Rolling with laughter

I do understand you point of 'the real world' but nevertheless it doesn't make any of these actions right to the individual.

My anticipation of how this should have gone would have been

Her "I don't feel that the comment was appropriate"
Him "I do apologise if that was the case"

The end

Still ...if nothing else ....I appear to have progressed from a Labour Lefty to a Wooly minded Liberal Rolling with laughter

Well, we can certainly agree on how it should have ended, a rebuke from her (for which I would have admired her) and an apology from him.

My main issue with linking, in any way, these incidents to more serious ones is that, rape is never innocent, a compliment usually is. Feminists of course consider all men potential rapists, we shouldn't encourage such trains of thought.

Anyway, nothing wrong with being a wooly minded liberal DG, usually thoroughly decent people and I count many amongst my friends.

We will have to agree to disagree on many aspects of this issue. This chap knew what he was saying and the context in which he was saying it ...he even said "I appreciate this is probably horrendously politically incorrect but ....." ...and of course in the context previously described I have stated they are linked ...logically they are linked....if I am wrong then why do organisations who counsel victims recognise there is a link. Confused

You might say that about a landscape but why would you say it over a woman you don't know ?

All of you that are saying because she did her hair and make up she sort of deserved it ..she should expect it ...I wonder whether you think about rape victims in the same way ? Whistle

"Deserved it"? Deserved what? A compliment about the quality of her photo? Shocked

This is a stunning photo of a lion...

...but I'm not sexually attracted to it.

The daughter says, "How do I look, Dad?" "Stunning", he replies...

...and he's not attracted to her, either.

Here's a stunning picture of a girl...

...and appreciating it is life-affirming, not wrong.

Some people fool themselves into believing they can read people's minds and motivations...

...and they always seem to assume the worst! Rolling Eyes

Sorry dad ...but to be in context you have to put "I appreciate this is probably horrendously politically incorrect but ....." before every picture. Smile

Oh, just maybe because they have a financial interest in making us all 'victims' in need of counselling.
