As well as the watch this topic and print view option provided by the site there are usually a brace of options built into your browser.

The site works well with 'reader view' which can make a post look more like you would expect to see in a book. Most mobile devices have this too, so using iOS as an example:

For off-line viewing you can export it to PDF for your library (iBooks):

So your favourite posts are available to read as if they were a more professional publication:

I have a collection of useful reference posts saved on my iPad this way so that they are immediately to hand.

Just received mine di-log (they tried to deliver yesterday).

As I put the package on the worktop, it flashed at me. How weird...... Moved the package and it flashed again.

It has a non contact voltage sensor whic is great, but when switched off, should it do this?

Yes it should as the non-contact works even when the amp clamp is turned off.

Just seems bizarre it's not glowing on voltage, but just on the gentlest of taps. So if it's in my car in the toolbox, it will be constantly flashing.....

I'll see if mine does the same.

Ok, tapping it as per your clip and it stays off. Hit it hard and it flashes once, then subsequent taps cause it to flash as per your clip. If I leave it a bit or turn it on and off then the tapping does nothing again. Hit it hard again and the cycle repeats. Weird.

Had switched it on and off before, no difference. It's just the gentlest of taps. I'll remove batteries and try again. Thumbs Up

Removing batteries and replacing makes no difference. Think I'll give them a call on Monday. Thumbs Up

Bizarrely the plastic packaging which is normally really difficult to split open, almost fell open. I wonder if it's been returned before.

Hi,

Super thread. I don't know where i would be without some of the information on here particularly from Robbie!

So i've checked the glowplug harness currents again today as i didn't get much of anything yesterday in way of a reading on the clamp meter.

Both 30 amp fuses intact
Both relays energising

Checking the current on the left & right harness when powered on i'm seeing little response at all from all bar one plug.

Just to check i'm not being an idiot i'm using the clamp meter set to DC 20amp (also tried 100amp) to test each cable individually, zero'd, clamped & then power up. The best reading i could get testing a single cable at a time was 0.11 (set at 20amp) I was expecting to see a initial draw something like 15.0 (set at 20amp)

I'm therefore presuming as i'm getting a reading, albeit a poor one, the system is functioning, but the glowplugs (all six) are deceased.

Would this be a logical conclusion or should I be investigating further, if so how? Confused

Yeah 20A setting. My new ones draw about 7A

Worth checking you have power at the 3 pin plugs when the ignition is switched on. (engine cold)

When you have concluded all that, even though its not recommended I found the resistance checked worked well on a cold engine.

Good Glow plug to ground, should be virtually 0R

Ok, so it's good Friday & I've a bit of time on my hands so i thought i'd dedicate some of it to the growing number of issues on the Disco3.

Revisiting the Glow plugs, i've now checked & can confirm 12V to each of the 6 feeds on the 2 harnesses to the glow plugs.

I've check the current draw again, nada.

So, following Robbies guide the next step was to kid the Disco it's -10deg via the ECT sensor, But where is it?

As you can see on the attached image it's not where I expected it to be according to the guide for a 2007 TDV6

So, a bit miffed & unable to see a senor on the coolant anywhere on the right side of the the vehicle I gave up.

Just as I was closing the bonnet, i noticed this & presume it's the ECT but in a different location.......

So i've stuck a 220K ohm resistor in & tried again.......

Same result other than a tiny reading of -0.06A on two plugs

So I conclude either the plugs are knackered, the sensor isn't the right one to kid the system or the clamp meter is no good although i did check it on a mains supply to ensure it's making a reading which it did & was inline with what was expected.

Do you far more knowledgable guys concur? Bow down

Is it time to hand it over the dealer / indy for Glowplugs do you think?

Thanks Thumbs Up

Once your u have seen 12v at the plugs I'm not sure what value adding a resistor is excepted.

Yeah find a good independent to change them. Crying or Very sad

And make sure you aren't relying on the car for the next few weeks.

Skagg - a couple of us have UNI-T DC clamp meters, presumably an earlier model to yours but, we have both concluded that the meter is total rubbish as far as the needs of this job goes Big Cry

Thanks for the reply Maplecottage. I'll have to see if i can hold of a better quality meter to compare.

If it is the meter & the plugs turn out to be working then i'm stumped where else to start looking for a cause to the problem. The environmental circumstance & visible symptoms all appear to point to plugs.

That said, it does feel as though everything deteriorated over a few months from starting fine on a cold morning to a few more cranks than normal, a puff of white smoke & a moment or two of lumpiness. After the first start normal service is resumed Smile I would have expected 6 plugs to have deteriorated gradually over a long period?

Thanks
