Yes I know it’s another FBH post, this retched heater is driving me around the hat rack, I have purchased a test lead kit from the forum and for some unknown reason it only picks the heater up from time to time, I thought are well that’s something or nothing.
So off I toddles to my junk box found some plugs and probes and made one up and guess what, yes same thing, so it isn’t down to the one I bought thankfully but every time I run the software to test the heater I have to remove fuse 28 then refit it, after doing this the software does its test and after a while it promptly spits its dummy out.
The problem is or seems to be the flame detector it gets so far then comes up and says burnout and goes into cooling mode, then it tells me that the error code is 02h every time, so press F5 and enter to clear the error code and try again and nothing, even if left alone for 10 minutes or so, the only way for the software to see it again is to remove fuse 28 for a few seconds.
This just goes on and on, what’s annoying is I have just bought one of the BAS controllers but don’t think it’s worth fitting it with the problem the heater is having.
I have huffed, chuffed and called it everything from a pig to a dog over the last few weeks but it still does the same thing over and over again, so have any of you lads that know more about these things than I do got any ideas as to what I can do before I end up say cobblers to it!

Some diesel burning heaters use the glow plug as the flame detector.

They can be annoying to connect to sometimes, the one that was in my D3 did that:
Never got to the bottom of it, and I don't think it's done the same since removing it, servicing it and playing with it on the workbench.
No start is, in my experience (of 1 FBH), related to internal soot meaning the flame doesn't burn properly. Some people are fixing this with brake cleaner down the air inlet during an attempted start.
Happy my loom isn't at fault though 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

oh I know
"operating state glowing 71" so well
I have no problem connecting to the WTT software and when ever it fails to start that is the point it gets to
if you can connect first, try a "fan test" set at 255% for 30sec (it runs at 100%) and see if it runs quiet then go for a "glow plug test" I have done 100% for 30sec you may well get some smoke coming out of the inlet
then try to turn it on and see if it runs, up to you trying the electric cleaner/brake cleaner/easy start
or
leave it run for half an hour then turn it off see if that helps.
best of luck

Been playing with mine today - where do you squirt the brake cleaner?
Its running now after some multiple starts and resetting a few fault codes (linked to HVAC).
Just thinking a few squirts may help clean out inside.

Sorry - is air inlet easy to find? Standing in front of fbh is it left, right, front, back.
Don't want to squirt in wrong place.
Cheers

The black plastic cylinder with the corrugated silver tube coming from it, mounted on the top of the FBH bracket, is the air intake silencer. It's open at one end, that's the air inlet
Can't tell you if it's the left or right from memory 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

When I used brake cleaner I unclipped the air intake to get a 'straighter' path into the FBH.
I didn't go overboard - just enough to get it burning steadily and then let it run.I see no ships........
