I have given in Smile only kidding had a call from where I got the D3 from today and they are going to have a look at it and fit the BAS controller for me on Saturday, bit of a long journey for me but what the hell it will do the d3 to stretch its legs Smile so fingers crossed that all goes well and I will report back on Saturday evening whether its good bad or indifferent Smile

Here is an update.

Well as suggested I stuck at it for a while but didn’t really get anywhere to be truthful, anyway of I toddled to see Brian at Green Oval Garage and he fitted the BAS unit for me and had a tinker around but not much luck, all the heater did was cycle its 3 attempts then shut down, and he suggested that I try it at home a few times to see what happens while he makes some enquiries.

Anyway Sunday morning bright eyed and full of optimism that started to dwindle after about an hour or so, but after 2 hours I had given up as I was too cold, today I went out again to have another tinker, the first 6 cycles I got nothing, as recommended the break cleaner made an appearance again and time after time it did nothing and just as I thought to myself right one last try then I am going in for a warm, I gave it a good squirt of cleaner and bubble bubble pop pop and a few big bangs and whoosh of it went like a good un, it ran for a full 30 minutes then shut down as it should.

Sadly the big grin on my face was short lived as I let everything cool down for about 6 hours and went out to try it again, guess what! it was back to how it was to start with and refused to go even after 30 cycles with the occasional squirt of cleaner and the odd flicker nothing.

So I will wait and see what Brian comes up with but I suspect a new FBH might be needed but we shall see.
 Cheers Skippy.

My findings and my fix....

Ok so having read several threads on this subject this is what I found and what fixed my issue.

Issue was error code B1D29 Which means 'No start even after restart attempt'.

This then turns to lock out after a few times of no starts.

I have a OBD2 reader and clearer so cleared the codes and started the car up. I ran the live data from the FBH for the Water pump, Fuel pump and Combustion air fan. The fan and water pump would fire up then after around 30 seconds the fuel pump would run.... the unit would smoke for a few seconds and then the unit would turn off the fuel pump and close down.... Then the above mentioned error message would be logged.

Having read that one guy had plugged an air compressor to the units air input and blasted his back in to life I thought i may give this a go... I first give a blast when the car was turned off to loosen any coke / soot that may be present. I then fired up the car, waited for the fuel pump to kick in and the smoke to appear. I then gave the FBH a good pump full of compressed air and smoke simply poured form the unit.... The fuel pump stayed on this time and the unit did NOT shut down.... I gave the unit a few more blasts until it ran smoke free. I now have a fully working unit.

I will be running some injector cleaner through the tank to help remove any remaining build up in the chamber but for now.... All is well in the FBH world....

I am based in Lymington, Hampshire. If anyone needs me to plug their car to my reader / code clearing unit and maybe give a go with the compressor..... hit me a message and I will be happy to give it a go.

Hope this helps a few people and sums up what is spread over about 30 pages on here!!

And to clarify.... If you cabin heater is on the FBH will fire even with ECON on. Providing the dash display says 5* or under and the coolant temp is under 70*.

Images bellow show the before and after on the reader.

Silly as it sounds, blowing into it seems to work in some cases

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic105563.html

Then its a case of lots of good long burns and hope it clears itself out.

I sort of tried that but I ran out of wind as it were, if only I had an airline about 150' long things would so much easier Smile

JoeHale87.

I don't have any of these code reader things, but I have been using the Webasto software for the heater and clearing the errors with that but without much success Sad

I tried blowing with my mouth but didn't work. It needs a decent high pressure prolonged blast to dislodge the coke that's built up. So a hand pump simply won't cut it.

The webasto unit is fine but I find that the unit I have seems to be quicker and easier.

Essentially all you are doing with the airline is forcing some of the build up coke to come out, clearing the burning chamber and allowing for a better burn. I ran a good 90PSI into mine for a 20-30 second period a few times.

I will be posting a video and some more photos later today for you guys to look at.

Of course any of you based local ish to lymington, hants..... I'm happy to help with the kit I have

I ran a component test on the glow plug 100% for 15 seconds - then once complete (if it gets hot it will start the cooling stage) try starting and just add a tiny blast of brake cleaner when the glow plug is heating - and persist with it, although easier said than done.

Mine seems to run every time now, but I still have to get out and check! Laughing

I've tried both pin 4 & 5 for the Ground but the program still says under Protocol "wakeup" then "timeout"

I'm wondering if the USB/OBDII lead is suspect Big Cry This is the one I've got....... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/131420890409?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT

Can anyone recommend a lead which they know works & where to get it from?

Grillphil.

I have the same usb cable as you have and mine works fine, you say that you have used pin 4 and 5 but have you linked them together as some people do? It’s just a thought Smile

I made my own cable up that has pin probes on and it works fine and I can use pin 4 or 5 and if necessary as I can link both together, you could also buy one of the leads that Martin the forum owner sells, they work well and they have pins 4 and 5 linked out might be worth a try Smile

On a side note guys I couldn’t get to sleep this morning so I was outside with my two closest friends that were being chased up the road by a brass monkey, at 03:00hrs I pressed the lr button and low and behold the FBH fired up, so I was grinning like the cat that got the cream again, so now I will wait until tomorrow and try is again Smile
 Cheers Skippy.
