Why do some members repeatedly defend the jack each and every time someone reports a stripped jack screw?
I think some just like arguing the toss, but it is rather alarming when the jack lets go on you. Most mechanical failures on here are an inconvenience with a financial penalty and we don't call that whinging; but a failed jack really gets your attention as the risk to limbs is obvious.

I'm not defending it as such but it's not my experience of using one more than two dozen times ...and to be fair there aren't that many reported on this site proportionately. I do have to wonder whether there's something more in common with the way they are used tbh 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

We've had this debate before and it is a manufacturing and material issue. The first that failed on me was on a sunny day, flat concrete and no hurry. The car hardly moved as the jack just buckled on winding. Next failure was the stripped thread as my dealer and I experimented on his forecourt. My 4th D3 jack worked just fine on a number of occasions over many years.
I know how to use a jack and and my experience shows that there are 'good' jacks out there, but they should be good to go in when needed and not pose a safety hazard. In the early days of the D3 my dealer exchanged many jacks.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

hi, did not think it need rocket science to use a jack !!chock wheels, level ground, brake on, wind up, and bang stripped thread, is that how it works??

Its not about supporting these failures generally have other contributary factors
Absolutely Level Ground ?
Car in Off Road Height first ?
Wheels Chocked ?
Wheel nuts broken prior to lift ?
Wheel not stuck on the hub ?
The list just goes on
These Jacks are an absolute emergency jack when no other means are available if you follow the rules then all will be well
Try a 90/110 on the farm jack that used to be issued that was interesting
Jack on the wishbones not ideal however height is never an issue a 2T jack is fine as your not lifting the whole car and you leave the chassis clear for stands

There's a known problem with every inch of the D3\4 somewhere along the line ....No.1 contributing factor in all of these is human 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
