For me, fuel consumption was below 24mpg for the first few tanks.
It's then got consistently better hovering around 27mpg per tank of mixed jounreys. More town driving takes this down to around 25mpg.
Best I ever got was 31mpg from London to Dorset and back, not bad as it's an Auto.
Careful torque curve riding, not exceeding 2500 revs (back off and let the auto change up), easy on the accelerator, using the command shift to make sure it's in the right gear - all seems to help. I might add that I'm not a slow driver either - 80mph+ on open motorways, i just dont push her very hard on acceleration.
Ever been driven by someone who is ON then OFF the GAS then ON the brakes then ON the gas... you can see their legs constantly moving harshly on the pedals... jerky drivers get poor consumption. However, I would be asking questions if there didnt seem to be a good reason for consumption poorer than 24mpg.

I am very sceptical about the upgrade.
Firstly you have to do a manual mpg calculation as the one on the disco is always over the real mpg.
I have done 2 recently pre and post the updrage. Both were on similar usage patterns, at least 80% motorway miles per tank.
first gave me 23 mpg when computer was saying about 24 second 22 when computer saying 25.3 mpg!! So the software may SAY its better but reality can be totally different.
so for me the argument that my vehicle has somethign wrong causing mpg problems continues. 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

I see your point....ultimately for me ... I don't really worry about the mpg ...it does what it does.
The upgrade is worth it for many other reasons though, not least the extra bit of umph for a smoother takeoff and a slightly stiffer suspension and knowing that you're software is fully up-to-date. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

mine's doing the same as before the 'enhancements' were done, just reporting it more accurately on the info screen now! resolved to leave the info screen blank and just stick more smelly stuff in when the orange light comes on and the petrol pumps appear on the Satnav.... far less stressful.. and theeeeennn......???

We are seeing around 28-30 mpg - auto box - motorway and fast road. Mileage around the 70,000 mark for all the vehicles. The mpg is based on the dash display which we assume is correct. The mpg has got better as the miles piled on...............Load is 2 adults (minimum) and about 800kg of kit in the back

mileage mpg diesel: super! |
|
Just joined the "club" (TDV6 S model) and first 100 miles added to existing 11,700 on the clock returned 35 mpg along the M5 at around 70-75, More than pleased. Details: Texaco fuel, light winds, various roadworks, cruise control most of time. This my forst post, so apologies if it turns out strange looking etc. ! Don't put it off, go for it!

I am only getting 20mpg it is an auto with 11k, I was told it would take 6/8k before i saw real good mpg but on general running around 20 after the upgrade it went down 2mpg but has come back to 20mpg but does not go anymore! With caravan on back twin wheel it is 17mpg. Am thinking a chip may add more miles to the smiles any input thanks Road Rallying guys keep it up all night!

Our June '06 TDV6 SE Auto has never shown below 25 mpg and mostly hovers between 26 and 28, with 30 or so on longer motorway runs. We generally dirve for comfort / road conditions and mpg is not our main concern.
There does seem to be a considerable difference between member's cars, I can't believe they have the same mechanicals, as software alone cannot make the difference as post enhancement stats show.
Just grateful ours is pretty frugal at present. NOW SOLD: 2006 TDV6 SE Auto Zermatt silver with Alpaca Leather

My 1 week old TDV6 SE Manual (07MY) was showing 36 mpg at 500 miles. Next 200 miles was more local journey's so the computer is currently showing 35.8mpg.
Calculations based on the first refuel showed 34.7 mpg. Fuel tank was full when I collected from dealer but I can't be sure exactly how full or what fuel brand was in it. Will continue to monitor.
Guess I should add that I'm running-in (max 70mph/3k rpm to date). Yeah, I know it's an outdated concept....call me a traditionalist.
Whatever the reason, I never expected anything like that mpg so I'm very very happy
